Detrimental effects of dual ACEI–ARB therapy: is the (pro)renin receptor the culprit?
Chan et al. report increased mortality with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin type 1 receptor blockers in hemodialysis patients, supporting emerging evidence that such dual therapy may be detrimental.

The effects of sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors on the ‘forgotten’ right ventricle
Abstract With the progress in diagnosis, treatment and imaging techniques, there is a growing recognition that impaired right ventricular (RV) function profoundly affects the prognosis of patients with heart failure (HF), irrespective of their left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).

The (Pro)renin Receptor: Moving away from Prorenin? [PDF]
__Abstract__ The function of prorenin, the precursor of renin, remained unknown until the discovery of the (pro)renin receptor ((P)RR). (Pro)renin binding to this receptor allows angiotensin generation and induces signaling.

Implementation of guideline‐recommended medical therapy for patients with heart failure in Europe
Abstract Physicians' adherence to guideline‐recommended heart failure (HF) treatment remains suboptimal, especially regarding the target doses. In particular, there is evidence that non‐cardiologists are less compliant with HF guideline recommendations. This is likely to have a detrimental impact on patients' survival, readmissions and quality of life.

(pro)renin receptor: A stable molecule
Basically, (pro)renin acts via a specific receptor, (pro)renin receptor (PRR) binding between renin and prorenin, its inactive proenzyme form. The study on the molecular level of PRR can give useful knowledge to help understand many renal disorders. Here, the author focuses on the stability of the PRR molecule.

Interventional therapies for chronic heart failure: An overview of recent developments
Abstract Heart failure (HF), the final manifestation of most cardiovascular diseases, has become a major global health concern, affecting millions of individuals. Despite basic drug treatments, patients present with high morbidity and mortality rates. However, recent advancements in interventional therapy have shown promising results in improving the ...

Prorenin, its maturation and the (pro)renin receptor [PDF]
The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is a key biochemical pathway controlling homeostasis and blood pressure. The initial step of the RAS is carried out by renin to produce angiotensin (Ang) I which is converted to Angll by the angiotensin-converting ...

The (pro)renin receptor in health and disease
The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is one of the most important systems in physiology and in pathology. The (pro)renin receptor ((P)RR) is a new component of the system that has attracted much attention being potentially a new therapeutic target. The receptor binds renin and the inactive proenzyme form of renin, prorenin, and the binding triggers the ...

Abstract Aims Cardiac decompensation in cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) results in systemic congestion usually treated with diuretics. When despite high doses of diuretics, response is poor, ultrafiltration (UF) appears to be a useful and safe technique.
