Dynamic product diversity

open access: yes, 2012
The goal of this paper is to study the frequency of new product introductions in monopoly markets where demand is subject to transitory saturation. We focus on those types of goods for which consumers purchase at most one unit of each variety, but repeat purchases in the same product category.

Constraints on the optimization of gene product diversity

open access: yesMolecular Systems Biology
Abstract RNA and proteins can have diverse isoforms due to post-transcriptional and post-translational modifications. A fundamental question is whether these isoforms are mostly beneficial or the result of noisy molecular processes. To assess the plausibility of these explanations, we developed mathematical models

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Using Economics to Explain Spatial Diversity in a Wheat Crop: Examples from Australia and China

open access: yes
Spatial diversity indicators may serve an important function for policymakers as they seek to manage crop genetic diversity and potential externalities associated with diffusion of some types of genetically improved crops.

Ethnic Diversity and School Funding in Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes
The impact of ethnic diversity on the provision of local public goods and collective action in Africa remains largely unexplored. To address this gap, this paper explores the relationship between ethnic diversity and local primary school funding in rural

Chemical diversity of cyanobacterial natural products

open access: yesNatural Product Reports
This review article covers 995 natural products of cyanobacterial origin reported from 2010 to 2023. Compounds were analyzed using similarity networking to gain insights into their chemical diversity.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Is subsistence enough? Examining the impact of household farm bio-diversity on dietary diversity in Bukidnon, Philippines.

open access: yes, 2011
Hunger and malnutrition have plagued the developing world for decades. Not only are individuals not meeting their daily energy requirements, but individuals are also not meeting their daily micronutrient requirements.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

The Contribution of Genetic Resources and Diversity to Wheat Productivity: A Case from the Punjab of Pakistan

open access: yes
This study makes use of data on wheat production in the Punjab of Pakistan from 1979 to 1985 to 1) examine patterns of varietal diversity in farmers' fields both at the regional and district levels and 2) identify how and in what ways genetic resources ...
