Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Optimization and Scale-up of Extracellular b-glucan Production by Ophiocordyceps dipterigena BCC 2073 in Low-Cost Media

open access: yes, 2017
The optimization of b-glucan production by Ophiocordyceps dipterigena BCC 2073 was carried out. For the three-step optimization performed in 250-mL Erlenmeyer flasks, at the first step, the maximum b-glucan production of 16.48±0.60 g/L was obtained using

System identification in production ecology: from theory to agroforestry practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper introduces a system identification approach to agricultural ecosystems. In particular, the identification of an agroforestry system, combining trees with crops, is subject of study.

Special Issue: Measurement, Simulation, and Design of Sound in Urban Spaces

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Sound quality in urban spaces is not only a matter of limit values for noise levels but is also key to human physical and psychological well-being, which makes it a challenge for the latest data analysis techniques [...]

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Integrated production system optimization using global optimization techniques

open access: yes, 2007
Many optimization problems related to integrated oil and gas production systems are nonconvex and multimodal. Additionally, apart from the innate nonsmoothness of many optimization problems, nonsmooth functions such as minimum and maximum functions may ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
