Association between heroin dependence and prodynorphin gene polymorphisms

open access: yesBrain Research Bulletin, 2011
Dynorphin peptides and k-opioid receptor are important in the rewarding effects of drugs of abuse such as heroin. This study examined potential association between heroin dependence and four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of prodynorphin (PDYN) gene (rs35286281 in promoter region and rs1022563, rs2235749, rs910080 in 3'UTR).

Advent of NK3R Antagonists for the Treatment of Menopausal Hot Flushes: A Narrative Review

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The menopause transition is marked by symptoms predominantly attributed to declining oestrogen levels. Approximately 80% of women experience associated symptoms, and 25% experience severe symptoms. The commonest are vasomotor symptoms (VMS), collectively referring to hot flushes and/or night sweats.

Endogenous dynorphin protects against neurotoxin-elicited nigrostriatal dopaminergic neuron damage and motor deficits in mice

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2012
Background The striato-nigral projecting pathway contains the highest concentrations of dynorphin in the brain. The functional role of this opioid peptide in the regulation of mesencephalic dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons is not clear.

Inhibitory role of inducible cAMP early repressor (ICER) in methamphetamine-induced locomotor sensitization. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BACKGROUND: The inducible cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) early repressor (ICER) is highly expressed in the central nervous system and functions as a repressor of cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) transcription.

Chronic alcohol consumption and withdrawal do not induce cell death in the suprachiasmatic nucleus, but lead to irreversible depression of peptide immunoreactivity and mRNA levels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
There is evidence that chronic ethanol treatment (CET) disrupts the biological rhythms of various brain functions and behaviors. Because the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) is widely recognized as the dominant pacemaker of the circadian system, we have ...

Epigenetic mechanisms and therapeutic innovations in chronic pain‐associated neuropsychiatric co‐morbidities

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 7, Page 1313-1340, April 2026.
Abstract Chronic pain, marked by nociceptive sensitization and maladaptive neuroplasticity, affects 30% of the global population with escalating socioeconomic burdens. Epidemiological data show a 2‐3‐fold increase in neuropsychiatric co‐morbidities among individuals with chronic pain, where epigenetic dysregulation serves as a key mechanism linking ...

Endogenous opioids in the olfactory tubercle and their roles in olfaction and quality of life

open access: yesFrontiers in Neural Circuits
Olfactory dysfunctions decrease daily quality of life (QOL) in part by reducing the pleasure of eating. Olfaction plays an essential role in flavor sensation and palatability.

Implanted Reuptake-deficient or Wild-type Dopaminergic Neurons Improve ON L-dopa Dyskinesias Without OFF-dyskinesias in a Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
OFF-L-dopa dyskinesias have been a surprising side-effect of intrastriatal foetal ventral mesencephalic transplantation in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Dysmorphic neurons express markers of inhibitory glycinergic signaling in focal cortical dysplasia IIb

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 2, March 2026.
Deep learning tissue mapping can guide region of interest selection for spatial transcriptomic analyses. Using this method, a transcriptional catalogue of focal cortical dysplasia type IIb was generated, revealing enrichment for markers of inhibitory glycinergic signaling in cytomegalic dysmorphic neurons.
