Propensity Score Weighting for Causal Inference with Clustered Data

open access: yesJournal of Causal Inference, 2018
Propensity score weighting is a tool for causal inference to adjust for measured confounders in observational studies. In practice, data often present complex structures, such as clustering, which make propensity score modeling and estimation challenging.

The Value of Knowing the Propensity Score for Estimating Average Treatment Effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In a treatment effect model with unconfoundedness, treatment assignments are not only independent of potential outcomes given the covariates, but also given the propensity score alone. Despite this powerful dimension reduction property, adjusting for the

Long-term effects of school quality on health and lifestyle: evidence from comprehensive schooling reforms in England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Members of the National Child Development Study cohort attended very different types of secondary schools, as their schooling lay within the transition period of the comprehensive education reform in England and Wales.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

REGRESSION ADJUSTMENT AND STRATIFICATION BY PROPENSTY SCORE IN TREATMENT EFFECT ESTIMATION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Propensity score adjustment of effect estimates in observational studies of treatment is a common technique used to control for bias in treatment assignment.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Association between cardiopulmonary bypass duration and early major adverse cardiovascular events after surgical repair of supravalvular aortic stenosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundPatients who underwent surgical repair of supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS) are at high risk for postoperative major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).

Platelet parameters and risk of hypertension disorders of pregnancy: a propensity score adjusted analysis

open access: yesPlatelets, 2022
While the role of platelets in cardiovascular diseases among the general population has been widely reported, evidence is inconsistent regarding the association between platelet indices with hypertension in pregnant women.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
