Verification of Hypervelocity Bulge Red Clump Stars

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We verify candidate hypervelocity red clump stars located in the Galactic bulge that were selected based on the VVV and the Gaia DR2 data by Luna et al. To do so, we analyze data from the OGLE-IV survey: difference images and astrometric time series.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Proper Motions of Pre-Main Sequence Stars

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceThe kinematic study of young stars is an important tool to discuss the early stages of star formation. In this context, proper motions allow us to detect moving group structures of young stars to which they belong.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

IRS 9: The Case for a Dynamically Ejected Star from the Galactic Center

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Measuring stellar motions at the Milky Way’s Galactic center (GC) provides unique insight into the dynamical processes within galactic nuclei. We present proper-motion measurements for 23 SiO-maser-emitting stars within 45″ of SgrA*, including four ...

Proper motions in compact symmetric objects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We discuss recent measurements of proper motions of the hotspots of compact symmetric objects (CSOs). Source expansion has been detected in 10 CSOs so far and all these objects are very young(less than or equal to3 x 10(3) yr). In a few sources ages have

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

The Proper Motion of Draco II with HST Using Multiple Reference Frames and Methodologies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present proper motion (PM) measurements for Draco II, an ultrafaint dwarf satellite of the Milky Way. These PMs are measured using two epochs of Hubble Space Telescope (HST)/Advanced Camera for Surveys imaging separated by a 7 yr temporal baseline ...

Proper Motion

open access: yes, 2013
Proper Motion (in the sense of "intrinsic to the object") is the apparent angular motion of stars across the sky, due to their orbits around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. Lacking any depth perception, astronomers have to use different techniques to measure a star’s radial (directly toward or away from us) and transverse (across the sky) motions ...
