Association of activated properdin with complexes of properdin with C3

The Journal of Immunology, 1991
Abstract An ELISA using antibody to properdin (P), followed by antibody to C3 to detect complexes of P with C3 (P-C3), detected low levels of P-C3 complexes in human serum and plasma samples. Incubating serum for 1 h at 37 degrees C increased the amount of P-C3 and diminished factor B hemolytic activity without altering total alternative

Biosynthesis of properdin.

The Journal of Immunology, 1989
Abstract Properdin (P) is synthesized by the human promyelocytic cell line, HL-60, after differentiation with DMSO. The secreted P was physiochemically indistinguishable from purified plasma P. It was polymerized and able to bind to C3IBb-Sepharose but not to C3i-Sepharose. No extracellular precursor was present.

Immunoelektrophoretische Studien am Properdin-Zymosan-und Properdin-Inulin-Komplex [PDF]

open access: possibleKlinische Wochenschrift, 1958

Methods for the Assay of Properdin

Vox Sanguinis, 1958
SummaryMethods proposed for the determination of properdin are described and evaluated. Preference is given to a modification of the zymosan assay of Pillemer. The properties of zymosan are investigated with the purpose of providing information on the nature of the groups which are responsible for the properdin interactions. In a second part a detailed ...

Properdin is a trimer

Molecular Immunology, 1982
Abstract Physical measurements on native properdin suggest that this protein is a trimer of mol. wt 145,600–152,600 consisting of three apparently identical subunits of mol. wt 49, 100 each.

Interaction of properdin convertase and properdin in the alternative pathway of complement activation

Immunochemistry, 1976
Abstract When activated properdin convertase ( PC ) is added to normal human serum, properdin is altered as manifested by a shift in electrophoretic mobility and a decrease in the amount of protein measurable by radial immunodiffusion. The degree of alteration is dependent on the concentration of PC and the time of incubation. Thus, PC

Immunity, Infection, and Properdin

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1959
The word "immune" derives from the Romans, who used it to describe those persons declared exempt from taxation and other obligations to the state. The meaning was later applied to the exemption and protection due to the early Christian church and its officers, as in "papal immunity" or the "immunity from arrest" found in the sanctuary of the church ...

The Properdin System

Vox Sanguinis, 1956
