Neuroprotective Properties of Xenon. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Xenon is a rare noble gas that was introduced into clinical practice more than 70 years ago. Xenon's clinical properties are predicated by its ability to fit into preformed cavities of macromolecules thereby altering their biological functions.

Impact of Mask Type on Pharyngeal Opening Pressures During Drug‐Induced Sleep Endoscopy

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Assessment of the impact of mask type on pharyngeal opening pressures during drug‐induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) is currently lacking. Our study demonstrates that pharyngeal opening pressures at the velum, oropharynx, and tongue base are significantly reduced using nasal vs. full‐face mask techniques.

Overnight Monitoring After T&A for Children Ages 24–36 Months: Is It Always Necessary?

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study aims to identify whether all children < 3 years of age require overnight admission after tonsillectomy with or without adenoidectomy. We found that 98.7% of children who were off oxygen within 3 h after surgery never went back on oxygen during the entire monitoring period.

Propofol inhibits prokaryotic voltage-gated Na+ channels by promoting activation-coupled inactivation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Propofol is widely used in the clinic for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. As with most general anesthetics, however, our understanding of its mechanism of action remains incomplete.

Propofol and children--what we know and what we do not know. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The pharmacokinetics of propofol are relatively well described in the pediatric population. Recent work has confirmed the validity of allometric scaling for predicting propofol disposition across different species and for describing pediatric ontogenesis.

Propofol inhibits lung cancer cell viability and induces cell apoptosis by upregulating microRNA-486 expression

open access: yesBrazilian journal of medical and biological research = Revista brasileira de pesquisas medicas e biologicas, 2017
Propofol is a frequently used intravenous anesthetic agent. Recent studies show that propofol exerts a number of non-anesthetic effects. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of propofol on lung cancer cell lines H1299 and H1792 and ...
