Renin and Prorenin Receptor in Hypertension: What’s New?
Current Hypertension Reports, 2010The (pro)renin receptor, PRR, was initially characterized as a component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). PRR-bound renin and prorenin display increased enzymatic activity, and binding activates intracellular signaling, upregulating the expression of profibrotic proteins.

Pathologic roles of prorenin and (pro)renin receptor in the eye
Frontiers in Bioscience, 2008Recent reports indicated that tissue renin-angiotensin system (RAS) was upregulated and angiotensin II type 1 receptor signaling plays crucial roles in ocular inflammation and neovascularization; however, the precise mechanism for activating tissue RAS had not been defined until recently.

Prorenin and the (Pro)renin Receptor in Retinal Pathology
Current Hypertension Reviews, 2009Blockade of angiotensin II (Ang II) has potential therapeutic benefit for ocular diseases including diabetic retinopathy and retinopathy of prematurity. Perhaps the most studied is diabetic retinopathy where angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition and angiotensin type 1 receptor blockade (AT1-RB) is beneficial.

Prorenin is the enzymatically inactive precursor of renin. Recent interest has focused on the nonproteolytic activation of prorenin by antibodies and renin/prorenin receptors since markedly increased levels of circulating prorenin have been associated with both physiological and pathological changes. Prorenin has been considered to be activated in vivo

[Systemic distribution of prorenin and its receptor].
Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 2012The (pro)renin receptor was first identified as a 350-amino acid protein with a single transmembrane domain. This receptor binds to prorenin to mediate its dual functions: activation of ERK1/2 independently from angiotensin II generation and induction of full enzymatic activity to initiate angiotensin II-dependent effects.

Prorenin, its maturation and the (pro)renin receptor
2018Expression of the mouse putative (pro)renin receptor (RR) was detected by RT-PCR in all tissues and cell lines examined including human mesangial cells previously reported to be negative for RR. Mouse RR was also present during development from E9.5. The mouse and rat RR cDNA were found to be highly homologous (92% and 91%, respectively) to the human ...
