Specialized pro‐resolving mediators: biosynthesis and biological role in bacterial infections

Here, we focus on specialized pro‐resolving mediators (SPMs) generated from omega‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in response to bacterial infections. SPMs are immunoresolvents that actively terminate inflammation by limiting neutrophil influx, stimulating phagocytosis, bacterial killing and efferocytosis by macrophages.
