This Commentary examines research by Wu et al. showing that β‐1,3‐glucan synthase‐like 5 (GSL5) functions as a key gene for susceptibility to clubroot in Brassica family members by suppressing immunity regulated by jasmonic acid. Inaction of GSL5 through genome editing provides broad‐spectrum resistance to clubroot.

Plants adapt to heat via thermotolerance pathways in which the activation of protein folding chaperones is essential. In eukaryotes, protein disulfide isomerases (PDIs) facilitate the folding of nascent and misfolded proteins in the secretory pathway by ...

The Role of Oxidative Stress in Periodontitis
Oxidative stress is involved in multiple chemical reactions that take place in different intracellular organelles: mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum, peroxisomes, autophagy, and aging, and can be influenced by exogenous factors: nutrition, physical activity, psychological status, environmental conditions, microbiome, and drugs.

ABSTRACT Plant immune systems recognise pathogen‐derived molecular patterns to activate defence responses, yet the mechanisms underlying fungal pattern recognition in crops remain largely unclear. Here, we characterise the cysteine‐rich secretory protein SsSCP from the broad‐host‐range fungal pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum as a potent elicitor of ...

A Study on the Alteration of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress-related Proteins in Cyclophosphamide-induced Damage to Urothelium [PDF]
Background: Cyclophosphamide is widely prescribed as an anti-cancer drug and used as an immunosuppressant. Hemorrhagic cystitis is one of the common complications of cyclophosphamide intake.

Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase‐Like 1 Positively Regulates Seed Dormancy in Rice
ABSTRACT Seed dormancy is an adaptive strategy that enables plants to survive adverse environmental conditions. In agricultural contexts, an optimal level of dormancy is essential: Insufficient dormancy can result in preharvest sprouting, while excessive dormancy may lead to uneven germination and poor stand establishment in subsequent crops.

The protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) family comprises 21 members that have oxidase, reductase, isomerase, and foldase activities essential for human health and disease. Protein disulfide isomerase A4 (PDIA4) is the largest member in this family.

Phylogenetic Relationship of Bombyx mori Protein Disulfide Isomerase
A cDNA that encodes protein disulfide isomerase was isolated from Bombyx mori (bPDI), in which an open reading frame of 494 amino acids contained two PDI-typical thioredoxin active sites of WCGHCK and an ER retention signal of the KDEL motif at its C-terminal. The bPDI protein shared less than 55% of the amino acid sequence homology with other reported

ABSTRACT In bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), cysteine (Cys) residues within the N‐ and C‐termini of high‐molecular‐weight glutenin subunits (HMW‐GSs) critically influence dough quality. However, the functional significance of Cys residue in their central repeat domain (CRD) remains unclear.
