Actin filament assembly by bacterial factors VopL/F: Which end is up? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Competing models have been proposed for actin filament nucleation by the bacterial proteins VopL/F. In this issue, Burke et al. (2017. J. Cell Biol. https://doi.org/10.1083/jcb.201608104) use direct observation to demonstrate that VopL/F bind the barbed ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Cryo-EM structure of AAA + ATPase thorase reveals novel helical filament formation

open access: yesComputational and Structural Biotechnology Journal
The AAA+ (ATPases associated with a variety of cellular activities) ATPase, Thorase, also known as ATAD1, plays multiple roles in synaptic plasticity, mitochondrial quality control and mTOR signaling through disassembling protein complexes like AMPAR and

Cysteine-rich protein 1 (CRP1) regulates actin filament bundling

open access: yesBMC Cell Biology, 2005
Background Cysteine-rich protein 1 (CRP1) is a LIM domain containing protein localized to the nucleus and the actin cytoskeleton. CRP1 has been demonstrated to bind the actin-bundling protein α-actinin and proposed to modulate the actin cytoskeleton ...

Genetic dissection of novel myopathy models reveals a role of CapZα and Leiomodin 3 during myofibril elongation.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2022
Myofibrils within skeletal muscle are composed of sarcomeres that generate force by contraction when their myosin-rich thick filaments slide past actin-based thin filaments.

Protein glycosylation pathways in filamentous fungi [PDF]

open access: yesGlycobiology, 2008
Glycosylation of proteins is important for protein stability, secretion, and localization. In this study, we have investigated the glycan synthesis pathways of 12 filamentous fungi including those of medical/agricultural/industrial importance for which genomes have been recently sequenced.

Giant FAZ10 is required for flagellum attachment zone stabilization and furrow positioning in Trypanosoma brucei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The flagellum and flagellum attachment zone (FAZ) are important cytoskeletal structures in trypanosomatids, being required for motility, cell division and cell morphogenesis.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Signaling through polymerization and degradation: Analysis and simulations of T cell activation mediated by Bcl10.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2021
The adaptive immune system serves as a potent and highly specific defense mechanism against pathogen infection. One component of this system, the effector T cell, facilitates pathogen clearance upon detection of specific antigens by the T cell receptor ...
