Mgat1-dependent N-glycosylation of membrane components primes Drosophila melanogaster blood cells for the cellular encapsulation response. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2012
In nature, larvae of the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster are commonly infected by parasitoid wasps, and so have evolved a robust immune response to counter wasp infection.

Protein O-Glycosylation Induces Collagen Expression and Contributes to Diabetic Cardiomyopathy in Rat Cardiac Fibroblasts

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2009
Diabetic cardiomyopathy may be accompanied by myocardial fibrosis. We have previously reported that cardiac fibrosis and protein O-glycosylation are elevated in diabetes.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Positive-unlabelled learning of glycosylation sites in the human proteome

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2019
Background As an important type of post-translational modification (PTM), protein glycosylation plays a crucial role in protein stability and protein function.

Site specific N- and O-glycosylation mapping of the spike proteins of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The glycosylation on the spike (S) protein of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19, modulates the viral infection by altering conformational dynamics, receptor interaction and host immune ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Glycosylation in the tumor immune response: the bitter side of sweetness

open access: yesActa Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica
Glycosylation is the most structurally diverse form of post-translational modification (PTM) of proteins that affects a myriad of cellular processes. As a pivotal regulator of protein homeostasis, glycosylation notably impacts the function of proteins ...

Genetic and process engineering strategies for enhanced recombinant N-glycoprotein production in bacteria

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2021
Background The production of N-linked glycoproteins in genetically amenable bacterial hosts offers great potential for reduced cost, faster/simpler bioprocesses, greater customisation, and utility for distributed manufacturing of glycoconjugate vaccines ...
