Bayesian models and algorithms for protein beta-sheet prediction [PDF]
Prediction of the three-dimensional structure greatly benefits from the information related to secondary structure, solvent accessibility, and non-local contacts that stabilize a protein's structure.

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Sequencing proteins with transverse ionic transport in nanochannels [PDF]
{\it De novo} protein sequencing is essential for understanding cellular processes that govern the function of living organisms and all post-translational events and other sequence modifications that occur after a protein has been constructed from its ...

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Sequence-Structure Alignment Using a Statistical Analysis of Core Models and Dynamic Programming [PDF]
The expanding availability of protein data enforces the application of empirical methods necessary to recognize protein structures. In this paper a sequence-structure alignment method is described and applied to various Ubiquitin-like folded Ras-binding ...

Three-dimensional modeling of single stranded DNA hairpins for aptamer-based biosensors. [PDF]
Aptamers consist of short oligonucleotides that bind specific targets. They provide advantages over antibodies, including robustness, low cost, and reusability.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Secondary structure predictions for silkmoth chorion proteins
The complete primary structure of many silkmoth chorion proteins is now known. These proteins are products of two major multigene families, A and B. Here we predict the secondary structure of representative A and B chorion proteins, using six different predictive methods. In both families of proteins 0-sheet structure predominates.
