Chloroplast Protein Translocation
2006The signal hypothesis, first put forth by G. Blobel and B. Dobberstein over 20 years ago, suggested that all proteins had as part of their primary amino acid sequence an amino-terminal region that defined the destination of proteins carrying that signal.

Enzymatic detection of protein translocation
Nature Methods, 2005Fundamental to eukaryotic cell signaling is the regulation of protein function by directed localization. Detection of these events has been largely qualitative owing to the limitations of existing technologies. Here we describe a method for quantitatively assessing protein translocation using proximity-induced enzyme complementation.

Translocation of Proteins into Mitochondria
IUBMB Life, 2001AbstractThe translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane (TOM) is composed of receptors, a channel protein, and its modulators that function together to import proteins into mitochondria. Although the import pathway of proteins directed to the mitochondrial matrix has been well characterized, recent studies into the import pathway taken by proteins ...

Snapshots of membrane-translocating proteins
Trends in Cell Biology, 1996To learn about the molecular mechanism of protein translocation across the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), the environment of nascent chains during the translocation process has been characterized using a variety of crosslinking approaches.

Protein translocation genetics
1995Publisher Summary This chapter presents the update to the progress in studies of the protein translocation system in E. coli, with emphasis placed on genetic analyses of the translocation machinery. It is suggested that the significance of genetic analysis is at least two-fold.

Bacterial protein translocation
Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1992The energetic mechanism of preprotein export in Escherichia coli has been a source of controversy for many years. In vitro studies of translocation reactions that use purified soluble and membrane components have now clarified the main features of this mechanism.
