Bacterial protoplast fusion: Recombination in fused protoplasts of Streptomyces coelicolor

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1978
Numerous recombinants arose when protoplasts of S. coelicolor were treated with polyethylene glycol and regenerated on non-selective solid medium. In six-factor crosses, recombination frequencies of more than 10% (up to 17%) were routinely observed. This recombination did not require either of the known sex factors, SCPI and SCP2.

Protoplast Fusion of Yeasts

1996
This chapter deals with the possible use of protoplast fusion for hybridization and genetic analysis of yeasts. For a more general overview the reader is referred to a review by Ferenczy (1981) on microbial protoplast fusion.

Chemical fusion of protoplasts

1995
Somatic hybridisation of plants offers a novel method of circumventing sexual barriers in plant breeding. It not only permits the production of new hybrids between sexually incompatible genotypes [14], but also serves as a method for the genetic modification of vegetatively propagated crops, sterile or subfertile species and plants with relatively long

Protoplast Fusion in Yeasts

2020
This chapter briefly summarizes achievements from the field of yeast protoplast fusion and discusses some of the most recent findings. The fusion was induced by centrifugation and was controlled by employing auxotrophic mutants. Nutritional complementation via heterokaryon formation was the main indication of protoplast fusion.

Fusion-Permissive Protoplasts

1987
While artificial systems are useful for delineating the fusogenic properties of specific lipids or proteins, they cannot encompass the complexity of A. living cell membrane. To address basic questions such as what renders the plasma membrane fusion permissive and what regulates the fusion permissive state in vivo, A. highly fusion permissive system was

Electrical fusion of protoplasts

1991
There are many potentially useful applications of protoplast fusion, in both somatic cell genetics and in biotechnology [eg 1,2]. The two main approaches to fusing plant protoplasts are based either on chemical or electrical procedures. Chemical fusion of protoplasts will be described elsewhere in this volume [3].
