Feeding with tannin‐rich diets altered the fecal microbial composition and increased the relative abundance of tannin‐degrading microbes. We hypothesize that fecal bacteria and fungi may play important roles in helping herbivores adapt to tannin‐rich diets but respond to different tannin concentrations varies.

Evolutionary and mechanistic divergence in the Hsp70–Hsp110 chaperone system. Prokaryotic Hsp70s probably diversified into multiple orthologues that cooperated with co‐chaperones such as JDPs and NEF, forming increasingly complex proteostasis networks.

Alba protein-mediated gene and protein regulation in protozoan parasites
The success of protozoan parasites relies heavily on regulation of gene and protein expression to facilitate their persistence in harsh and often changing environments. These parasites display biology that is highly divergent from model eukaryotes, unfortunately leaving our understanding of these parasites' critical regulatory mechanisms incomplete ...

We recently reported that silencing of the polyadenylation factor EhCFIm25 in Entamoeba histolytica, the protozoan which causes human amoebiasis, affects trophozoite proliferation, death, and virulence, suggesting that EhCFIm25 may have potential as a ...

Transgenic selection and underlying mechanisms in apicomplexan parasites
Transgenic selection markers have driven genetic engineering in apicomplexans, enabling precise, iterative experiments. This review discusses mechanistic details of drug selection markers, strategies for marker recycling, and practical considerations for several clinically relevant parasites.

Glycosylated proteins in the protozoan algaEuglena gracilis: a proteomic approach
AbstractProtein glycosylation, and in particular N-linked glycans, is a hallmark of eukaryotic cells and has been well-studied in mammalian cells and parasites. However, little research has been conducted to investigate the conservation and variation of protein glycosylation pathways in other eukaryotic organisms.

Host-specific targets of Histomonas meleagridis antigens revealed by immunoprecipitation
Histomonas meleagridis, a protozoan parasite responsible for histomonosis (syn. Blackhead disease, histomoniasis), presents an increasing challenge for poultry health, particularly with the ban of licensed prophylactic and treatment options.

Immune Consequences of Metabolic Syndrome and Its Treatment: A Cytokine Perspective
Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS) who were not using glucose‐and/or lipid lowering medication (GLLM) exhibited a broader cytokine production profile after in vitro antigen‐specific stimulation than PBMCs from individuals with MetS using such medications and from healthy donors.

Lymphocystis Disease in Endemic Aotearoa New Zealand Bully (Gobiomorphus cotidianus)
ABSTRACT We detected lymphocystis disease virus (LCDV) for the first time in an Aotearoa New Zealand freshwater environment, from an individual common bully, toitoi, Gobiomorphus cotidianus (Eleotridae). Dinah's bully, Gobiomorphus dinae, and Kaharore bully, Gobiomorphus mataraerore, also exhibited gross nodular lesions on the fins but were not sampled.

Heat shock protein 90 from neglected protozoan parasites
Significant advances have been made in our understanding of heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) in terms of its structure, biochemical characteristics, post-translational modifications, interactomes, regulation and functions. In addition to yeast as a model several new systems have now been examined including flies, worms, plants as well as mammalian cells ...
