Characterizing the emergence and persistence of drug resistant mutations in HIV-1 subtype C infections using 454 ultra deep pyrosequencing. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: The role of HIV-1 RNA in the emergence of resistance to antiretroviral therapies (ARTs) is well documented while less is known about the role of historical viruses stored in the proviral DNA. The primary focus of this work was to characterize

Statistical analysis of proviral load in infected rabbits.

open access: yes, 2023
Whole blood was collected and rPBMCs were isolated from rabbits infected with WT, M3, ΔHbz, M3.ΔHbz, or SAm viruses at Weeks 2, 4, 8, and 12 post-infection. Genomic DNA was extracted for detection of HTLV-1 proviral load by qPCR.

A viral clonality evenness score to predict progression to adult T-cell leukaemia in asymptomatic carriers of human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 in Japan: a retrospective longitudinal cohort study

open access: yesThe Lancet Microbe
Summary: Background: Adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (ATL) is a highly aggressive T-cell malignancy that occurs in approximately 2–7% of individuals with human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1), after decades of asymptomatic infection. To address the

ZNF33B Promotes Japanese Encephalitis Virus Infection by Regulating the Stability of M6A‐Modified Trim25 to Control the Autophagy Process

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Upon JEV infection, ZNF33B recruits METTL14 to stabilize the METTL3‐METTL14 m6A methyltransferase complex, leading to increased m6A modification of host transcripts, including Trim25 mRNA. ZNF33B selectively binds m6A‐modified sites on Trim25 mRNA and accelerates its decay, resulting in reduced TRIM25 protein abundance.

Detection of HTLV-1 proviral DNA in cell-free DNA: Potential for non-invasive monitoring of Adult T cell leukaemia/lymphoma using liquid biopsy?

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
IntroductionFragmented genomic DNA is constitutively released from dying cells into interstitial fluid in healthy tissue. In cancer, this so-called ‘cell-free’ DNA (cfDNA) released from dying malignant cells encodes cancer-associated mutations.

Small‐Molecule Kinase Inhibitors Modulating Circadian Rhythms

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The circadian clock mechanism generates 24‐h rhythms crucial for regulating various physiological processes, and its dysregulation has been implicated in numerous diseases. In cells, the circadian clock operates through a transcriptional‐translational feedback loop, where phosphorylation plays a pivotal role in maintaining accurate circadian ...

HTLV-I proviral load in Argentinean subjects with indeterminate western blot patterns [PDF]

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2011

Brain viral reservoir seeding and neurological metabolic dysregulation in early‐life immunodeficiency virus infection

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Brain viral reservoirs were undetectable in neonatal SIV during the first 3 days post infection; antiretroviral therapy (ART) at 3 dpi prevented brain reservoir seeding and normalized metabolic function, highlighting the necessity of very early treatment to protect the developing CNS.

HIV‐1 viral load and reservoir size remain stable following SARS‐CoV‐2 mRNA vaccination in people with HIV

open access: yesHIV Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The potent immunogenicity of mRNA vaccination raised concerns about its impact on HIV‐1 viral load (VL) and reservoir size in people with HIV, which could drive vaccine hesitancy. As part of a prospective clinical trial, we investigated whether SARS‐CoV‐2 mRNA vaccination induced changes in VL and reservoir size after a 1‐year three‐
