Response of cultured human pulmonary artery endothelial cells to endotoxin

American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 1995
Endotoxemia is the leading cause of the adult respiratory distress syndrome. The effects of endotoxin on pulmonary endothelium, both in vivo and in culture, are diverse and complicated, and vary between species and cellular origin. Species such as sheep and cows are particularly sensitive to endotoxin, whereas rats and mice are more resistant. Studies

Characterization of L-glutamine transport by pulmonary artery endothelial cells

American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 1991
This study characterized the transport of L-glutamine by porcine pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAECs). Uptake of 50 microM glutamine was determined and found to be linear for at least 45 min. The sodium-dependent velocity represented greater than 95% of the total uptake at all time points.

Anti-hypoxic effect of dihydroartemisinin on pulmonary artery endothelial cells

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2018
Previous studies have found that dihydroartemisinin (DHA) has multiple functions such as anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor in addition to anti-malarial effects. Effect of DHA on monocrotaline-induced pulmonary hypertension in rats has been reported, while the specific mechanism is not known.A hypoxic model was established with human pulmonary arterial ...

Hyperproliferative apoptosis-resistant endothelial cells in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension

American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 2007
Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) is characterized by plexiform vascular lesions, which are hypothesized to arise from deregulated growth of pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAEC). Here, functional and molecular differences among PAEC derived from IPAH and control human lungs were evaluated. Compared with control cells, IPAH PAEC had

Endothelial Colony-Forming Cells in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

2015
The search for stem/progenitor cells capable of endothelium regeneration during postnatal life has gained substantial interest over the past decades and led to the discovery of a subset of cells with robust endothelial regenerative capacity. These so-called endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFCs) are phenotypically identical to cultured endothelial ...

Alkaline stress-induced apoptosis in human pulmonary artery endothelial cells

Apoptosis, 2005
The effect of alkaline stress, or an increase in extracellular pH (pHext), on cell viability is poorly defined. Human pulmonary artery endothelial cells (HPAEC) were subjected to alkaline stress using different methods of increasing pHext. Viability and mode of cell death following alkaline stress were determined by assessing nuclear morphology ...

Metabolism of Dynorphins by Peptidases of Pulmonary Artery Endothelial Cells

Endothelium, 2002
Degradation of several dynorphins by peptidases expressed in cultured porcine pulmonary artery endothelial cells was studied by incubation of the peptide in cell suspensions followed by electrospray ionization and tandem mass spectrometric analyses. Under the in vitro conditions applied, only the metabolism of dynorphin A1-8 occurred in a significant ...
