Why are our roe deer short of breath? – prevalence and promotive factors of lung parasites in roe deer Capreolus capreolus in south‐eastern Germany

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
The existence of bronchopulmonary nematodes in German roe deer Capreolus capreolus is well documented, with two types of lung parasites that have been described previously: Dictyocaulus capreolus and Varestrongylus capreoli. However, little is known about the impact of these parasites on their host animal or which parameters influence outbreak and ...

Virus‐Induced Cellular Senescence Causes Pulmonary Sequelae Post‐Influenza Infection

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Genetic or pharmacological depletion of senescent cells during influenza A virus infection led to complete recovery of the airway epithelium, indicating a marked acceleration of the epithelial repair process. Targeting senescent cells may represent a new preventive therapeutic option to reduce post‐influenza chronic lung damage.

Long‐term outcome after allogeneic stem cell transplantation for GATA2 deficiency: An analysis of 67 adults and children from France and Belgium

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
The overall survival of patients receiving an allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) for GATA2 deficiency was significantly better if they were transplanted recently, with a bone marrow or cord blood graft and if the transplant was performed before the onset of excess blast. Excess blast before HSCT was the only factor associated with an

Autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for multiple sclerosis in the UK: A 20‐year retrospective analysis of activity and haematological outcomes from the British Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (BSBMTCT)

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
We report the UK experience of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) for multiple sclerosis (MS) in 364 patients. In our observational study, transplant‐related mortality was 1.4%, Epstein–Barr virus reactivation occurred in 75.9%, while disability progression‐free survival was 83.5% at 2 years post‐AHSCT and 62.4% at 5 years.

Muscle transposition graft for closure of a permanent tracheostoma in a Quarter Horse mare

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Permanent tracheostomy is sometimes required in horses with severe and irreversible obstructive upper airway conditions. Abnormal respiratory noise and altered vocalisation may be of concern to owners and its influence on mare‐foal recognition and bonding should be considered.
