Pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells constitutively release xanthine oxidase
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1992The generation of oxidants in reperfused ischemic tissues by xanthine oxidase (XO) may contribute to tissue damage. We exposed bovine pulmonary microvascular endothelial (BPMVE) cells to hypoxia and subsequent reoxygenation and examined alterations in intracellular and extracellular XO activities.

Hyperoxia-responsive proteins in rat pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells
American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 1996Exposure to high partial pressures of oxygen are toxic to the lung, and much of the damage observed is related to injury of the pulmonary microvasculature. In this study, we evaluated the response of the pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell to high oxygen concentrations, using two-dimensional protein gel electrophoresis as a direct molecular assay

Pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell contractility on silicone rubber substrate
Journal of Cellular Physiology, 1989AbstractEndothelial cell (EC) motility may contribute to the regulation of microvascular perfusion and/or paracellular permeability. The experiments reported herein demonstrate that bovine pulmonary microvessel EC can reversibly deform a silicone substrate in response to agents known to contract and relax smooth muscle cells.

Hydraulic conductance of pulmonary microvascular and macrovascular endothelial cell monolayers
American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 2006Endothelial cells isolated from pulmonary arteries (RPAEC) and microcirculation (RPMVEC) of rat lungs were grown to confluence on porous filters and mounted on an Ussing-type chamber. Transmembrane pressure (ΔP) was controlled by the reservoir height, and the filtration rate corrected for surface area ( J v

Role of nitric oxide in human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell adhesion
Life Sciences, 2000We examined the effect of nitric oxide (NO) on cell adhesion using cultured human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVEC). Attachment of these cells to fibronectin was significantly inhibited by NO donors, spermine NONOate and S-nitroso-N-acetyl-penicillamine or L-arginine, but not 8-bromoguanosine-3',5'-cyclic-monophosphate.

The impact of aging on pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell barrier function
Physiology, 2023Elderly individuals have substantially elevated morbidity and mortality during conditions of lung injury. However, the precise underlying mechanisms leading to this elevated mortality are ill-defined. Lung injury is associated with damage to pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVEC) leading to a compromised vascular barrier, fluid and protein ...

Mutations in the bone morphogenetic protein receptor (BMPR2) gene have been observed in 70 % of patients with heritable pulmonary arterial hypertension (HPAH) and in 11-40 % with idiopathic PAH (IPAH). However, carriers of a BMPR2 mutation have only 20 % risk of developing PAH.

Calcium‐Dependent Localization of S100A6 in Pulmonary Microvascular Endothelial Cells
The FASEB Journal, 2020During inflammation, mediators increase calcium influx into endothelial cells through store‐operated calcium entry (SOCE) channels. Increasing calcium influx through the SOCE current I SOC promotes endothelial barrier ...

Expression of simple epithelial cytokeratins in bovine pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells
Journal of Cellular Physiology, 1990AbstractPolypeptides of bovine aortic, pulmonary artery, and pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells, as well as vascular smooth muscle cells and retinal pericytes were evaluated by two‐dimensional gel electrophoresis. The principal cytoskeletal proteins in all of these cell types were actin, vimentin, tropomyosin, and tubulin.

Abstract In bronchial asthma, eosinophils (EOS) adhere to, and migrate across, the lung microvasculature to exert their effector functions in the airways. This study was conducted to determine the effect of cytokines on adhesion molecule expression on human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (HPMEC) and the influence of these ...
