E2F-1 induces melanoma cell apoptosis via PUMA up-regulation and Bax translocation
Background PUMA is a pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 family member that has been shown to be involved in apoptosis in many cell types. We sought to ascertain whether induction of PUMA plays a crucial role in E2F-1-induced apoptosis in melanoma cells.

Papillary architecture of the lingual surface in the puma (Puma concolor)
SummaryThis research presents the first anatomical description of the tongue and lingual papillae of the mountain lion (puma). The tongues of three adult male pumas were used in this study. The tongues were dissected and studied firstly by gross and stereomicroscopy. Samples of each part were processed by study with scanning electron microscopy.

Regulation of PUMA induced by mechanical stress in rat cardiomyocytes
Background PUMA (p53-up-regulated modulator of apoptosis), an apoptosis regulated gene, increased during endoplasmic reticulum stress. However, the expression of PUMA in cardiomyocytes under mechanical stress is little known.

Proliferative and Survival Effects of PUMA Promote Angiogenesis
The p53 upregulated modulator of apoptosis (PUMA) is known as an essential apoptosis inducer. Here, we report the seemingly paradoxical finding that PUMA is a proangiogenic factor critically required for the proliferation and survival of vascular and ...

iNOS/NO is required for IRF1 activation in response to liver ischemia-reperfusion in mice
Background Ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) induces cytokines, and up-regulates inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), interferon regulatory factor-1(IRF1) and p53 up-regulated modulator of apoptosis (PUMA), which contribute to cell death and tissue ...
