Metabolic abnormalities and reprogramming in cats with naturally occurring hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1256-1270, April 2025.
Abstract Background and aims The heart is a metabolic organ rich in mitochondria. The failing heart reprograms to utilize different energy substrates, which increase its oxygen consumption. These adaptive changes contribute to increased oxidative stress.

Phase separation of the PRPP amidotransferase into dynamic condensates promotes de novo purine synthesis in yeast.

open access: yesPLoS Biology
De novo purine synthesis (DPS) is up-regulated under conditions of high purine demand to ensure the production of genetic materials and chemical energy, thereby supporting cell proliferation.

RNA Catabolites Contribute to the Nitrogen Pool and Support Growth Recovery of Wheat

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Turn-over of RNA and catabolism of nucleotides releases one to four ammonia molecules; the released nutrients being reassimilated into primary metabolism.

Protective Effects of Auricularia auricula Polysaccharides on Acute Lung Injury by Regulating Intestinal Flora and Metabolism

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Auricularia auricula polysaccharides (AAP; 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) protect against acute lung injury (ALI) by dose‐dependently remodeling the gut microbiota and modulating associated metabolic pathways via the gut‐lung axis, thereby enhancing pulmonary anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant capacity to ultimately prevent tissue damage.

An Interpretation of the Ancestral Codon from Miller's Amino Acids and Nucleotide Correlations in Modern Coding Sequences

open access: yesBioinformatics and Biology Insights, 2015
Purine bias, which is usually referred to as an “ancestral codon”, is known to result in short-range correlations between nucleotides in coding sequences, and it is common in all species.

Marine n‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Mitigate Obesity Traits Through PRDM16‐Driven Gene–Nutrient Interaction and Spatiotemporal Scale Browning Process

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
This large cohort study of 45,664 participants from the UK Biobank provides strong epidemiological evidence that fish oil use was associated with 12% and 7% lower risks of obesity and high body fat percentage, respectively. Mechanistically, marine n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids mitigate obesity traits through PRDM16‐driven gene–nutrient interactions ...

Disruption of nucleotide biosynthesis reprograms mitochondrial metabolism to inhibit adipogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research
A key organismal response to overnutrition involves the development of new adipocytes through the process of adipogenesis. Preadipocytes sense changes in the systemic nutrient status and metabolites can directly modulate adipogenesis.

Diagnosis and epidemiology of red blood cell enzyme disorders

open access: yesThalassemia Reports, 2013
The red blood cell possess an active metabolic machinery that provides the cell with energy to pump ions against electrochemical gradients, to maintain its shape, to keep hemoglobin iron in the reduced (ferrous) form, and to maintain enzyme and ...

Single molecule DNA sequencing via transverse electronic transport using a graphene nanopore: A tight-binding approach

open access: yes, 2016
We report a tight-binding model study of two-terminal graphene nanopore based device, for sequential determination of DNA bases. Using Greens function approach we calculate conductance spectra, I-V response and also the changes in local density of states
