Vitamin‐Responsive Disorders: From Molecular Basis to Clinical Presentation and Therapy
ABSTRACT Vitamin‐dependent cofactors are essential for numerous metabolic reactions, and defects affecting their uptake, conversion, utilisation, or regeneration constitute a heterogeneous group of inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs). Although dietary vitamin intake is sufficient to sustain coenzyme synthesis in healthy individuals, it is insufficient

Homology of the NifS family of proteins to a new class of pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzymes
Iterative profile sequence analysis reveals a remote homology of peroxisomal serine-pyruvate aminotransferases from mammals to the small subunit of soluble hydrogenases from cyanobacteria, an isopenicillin N epimerase, the NifS gene products from ...

Racemisation of Amino Acids: From Synthetic Challenge to Biological Significance
Racemisation, once considered an undesirable synthetic side reaction, also occurs naturally in amino acids and influences biological processes. Evidence links stereochemical conversion to ageing, protein turnover, and cellular development. This review examines mechanisms, control strategies in synthesis, applications and implications in physiology ...

Trypanosoma brucei brucei:uptake and metabolism of pyridoxine and pyridoxal
The uptake and metabolism of the B6 vitamers pyridoxine and pyridoxal by T. brucei (TREU 55) was investigated. The results show that these vitamers are taken up by simple diffusion followed by metabolic trapping.

Modification of brain glutamate dehydrogenase isoproteins with pyridoxal 5′-phosphate
Two soluble forms of brain glutamate dehydrogenase isoproteins were inactivated by pyridoxal 5′-phosphate. Restoration of catalytic activity can be accomplished by dialysis and addition of an excess of cysteine or lysine.
