The synthesis of 2-pyrimidinone nucleosides and their incorporation into oligodeoxynucleotides

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1989
The synthesis of 1-(beta-D-2'-deoxyribosyl)-2-pyrimidinone (dK) and its 5-methyl derivative (d5) from 2'-deoxycytidine or 2'-deoxythymidine, respectively, via silver oxide oxidation of 4-hydrazinopyrimidines is described. The necessary hydrazine substituted pyrimidine nucleosides have been prepared by transamination of a protected cytidine derivative ...

Carbon Dot Self‐Assembly: Bottom‐Up Fabrication, Morphological Evolution, Luminescence Regulation, and Advanced Applications

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
The self‐assembly of carbon dots, which enables precise control over their macroscopic architectures and collective properties, profoundly enhances their functionality. This review systematically summarizes the field through four key aspects—morphology control, luminescence modulation, assembly mechanisms, and advanced applications—and thereby offers a

Gap Analysis of Metabolic Conversions of Off‐Flavors and Antinutrients in Plant‐Based Substrates

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT To drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the food production chain, a major shift towards alternatives to conventional meat and dairy products is required. The use of plant‐based proteins is a promising route, but it also comes with challenges: Plant‐based proteins often contain antinutritional factors and off‐flavors, which can ...

The Relationship Between Catalyst and Solvent in Hydrogenation via Condensed Phase Heterogeneous Catalysis

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Heterogeneous catalysis has historically been developed in the gas phase, however, we have found it pertinent to highlight solvent effects that must be accounted for in liquid environments. Condensed phase catalysis, like that in biomass, petroleum and the conversion of CO2, stands to benefit from the typically overlooked discussion regarding the ...

Pyrimidinone: versatile Trojan horse in DNA photodamage?

open access: yesPhotochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 2015
Abstract (6-4) Photolesions between adjacent pyrimidine DNA bases are prone to secondary photochemistry. It has been shown that singlet excited (6-4) moieties form Dewar valence isomers as well as triplet excitations. We here report on the triplet state of a minimal model for the (6-4) photolesion, 1-methyl-2(1H)-pyrimidinone.
