Determination of cobalt by pyrogallol chemiluminescence

The chemiluminescence reaction involving pyrogallol in alkaline hydrogen peroxide solution is described. With reaction conditions selected for the determination of Co(II), the detection limit for Co(II) was at least two orders of magnitude below the detection limit of all other species tested.

The analgesic action of catecholamines and of pyrogallol

Abstract Upon intraventricular administration, the analgesic activity of several catecholamines on the rabbit tooth pulp assay in order of decreasing potency was l -isoproterenol, l -ethylalterenol, l -adrenaline, l -noradrenaline and dopamine. dl -Isoproterenol was less active than the l -isomer and d -isoproterenol was ineffective.

Le pyrogallol empeche le developpement d'une tachyphylaxie a la vasopressine. Il restitue la reaction pressorique apres l'apparition d'une tachyphylaxie. Cet effet ne semble pas etre lie a l'action inhibitrice de cette substance sur l'enzyme transferase o-methyl.

Adamantyl derivatives of pyrogallol

4-(1-Adamantyl)-, 5-(1-adamantyl)-, and 4,6-bis(1-adamantyl)pyrogallols were obtained by the reaction of adamantan-1-ol with pyrogallol in trifruoroacetic acid. The reaction of pyrogallol with adamantan-1-ol at 200 °C in a solvent-free medium without catalysts resulted in 5-(1-adamantyl)pyrogallol.

Pyrogallol Poisoning of Pigeons Caused by Acorns

Green acorns are known to contain high concentrations of pyrogallol. Here, we describe an extended case report of two pigeons found dead with a filled muscular stomach of acorns. The following pathologic findings were observed: irritation of mucosal membranes in the gastrointestinal tract, blackish discolored chyme, hyperemic organs, and general edemas.

The oxidation of some pyrogallol and purpurogallin derivatives

Abstract The oxidation products of a number of 4- and 5-monosubstituted and 4,6-disubstituted pyrogallols are discussed. 4-Alkylpyrogallols yield the corresponding 4′,7-dialkylpurpurogallins and the structures of the products resulting from the further oxidation of these compounds with alkaline hydrogen peroxide are elucidated.

Pyrogallol Toxicosis in Horses

Plants in the maple genus, Acer, and pistachio genus, Pistacia, have been reported to cause acute hemolysis in horses. The cause of hemolysis seems to be metabolism of gallic acids to the potent oxidant pyrogallol by enteric bacteria of the horse. Diagnosis is often tentative and circumstantial.
