ABSTRACT Medicago sativa L. (alfalfa) harbors a remarkably diverse reservoir of bioactive secondary metabolites. Flavonoids, isoflavones, and triterpenoid saponins dominate its bioactivity landscape, driving potent antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, antimicrobial, estrogenic, hypolipidemic, and cytotoxic actions through redox modulation, membrane ...

Reaction of 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-pyrone (1a) as well as 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2(1H)-pyridones (1b-d) with arylmethylene malononitriles or arylmethylene methyl cyanoacetates (2a-h) leads to the formation of the very stable 5,6-fused bicyclic 2-amino-4Hpyran ...

Regioselectivity in the Stille Coupling Reactions of 3,5-Dibromo-2-pyrone
The Stille couplings of 3,5-dibromo-2-pyrone normally take place regioselectively at C3, lower in electron density than C5, thus oxidative addition proceeds faster .

Novel biotransformation of a 2-pyrone to a substituted benzoic acid
It was found that Macrophoma commelinae (IFO 9570) had an ability to transform 5-acetyl-4-methoxy-6-methyl-2-pyrone (1) to 4-acetyl-3-methoxy-5-methylbenzoic acid (2). This biotransformation was investigated using 13C- and 14C-labeled compounds.

Some Aspects of Pyrone Synthesis and Stability
Two methods for the preparation of [gamma]-pyronocoumarins have been performed; the ring closure of an o- hydroxy- [beta] - ketoacetylcoumarln and the Kostanecki-Robinson reaction of an o-hydroxy-acetylcoumarln.

Density functional study of 4-pyrone and 2-pyrone
7-10Density functional (B3LYP) calculations using 6-31 G* have been made to estimate the bond lengths and angles for 4-pyrone and 2-pyrone. The predicted bond lengths and angles for 4-pyrone are in excellent agreement with experimental results ...

Contribution of Pyrone-Type Structures to Carbon Basicity: An ab Initio Study
The contribution to carbon basicity of pyrone-type structures is examined in this work by carrying out ab initio calculations on various cluster models. The different basic sites in a bicyclic pyrone structure are studied at the MP2/6-311+G(2d,2p)//MP2/6-
