Role of glutathione in augmenting the anticancer activity of pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) [PDF]

open access: yesRedox Report, 2010
Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ), a bacterial redox co-factor and antioxidant, is highly reactive with nucleophilic compounds present in biological fluids. PQQ induced apoptosis in human promonocytic leukemia U937 cells and this was accompanied by depletion of the major cellular antioxidant glutathione and increase in intracellular reactive oxygen ...

Development of a pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) mediated glucose oxidase enzyme electrode for detection of glucose in fruit juice

open access: yesElectroanalysis, 1996
The electrochemistry of pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) was examined and the coupling of PQQ with glucose oxidase was studied at different pH values. Optimal interaction between PQQ and glucose oxidase was observed at pH 3.5.

Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) prevents fibril formation of α-synuclein

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2006
Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is a noncovalently bound cofactor in the bacterial oxidative metabolism of alcohols. PQQ also exists in plants and animals. Due to its inherent chemical feature, namely its free-radical scavenging properties, PQQ has been drawing attention from both the nutritional and the pharmacological viewpoint.

Oxidation of polyamines by pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ)

Tetrahedron, 1989
Abstract Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) was found to oxidize the polyamines spermine and spermidine in stoichiometric amounts with diaminopropane as the main product identified by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography and mass spectroscopy of the reaction products.
