Mechanisms of Resistance to Quinolones [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2005
The increased use of fluoroquinolones has led to increasing resistance to these antimicrobials, with rates of resistance that vary by both organism and geographic region. Resistance to fluoroquinolones typically arises as a result of alterations in the target enzymes (DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV) and of changes in drug entry and efflux.

Carriage of Class 1 and 2 Integrons in Quinolone, Extended-Spectrum-β-Lactamase-Producing and Multi Drug Resistant E.coli and K.pneumoniae: High Burden of Antibiotic Resistance [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2015
Purpose: The study aimed at assessing any association between quinolone resistance, MDR and ESBL production and their relation with the presence of integrons in Esherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Clinical Importance and Epidemiology of Quinolone Resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The quinolone class of antimicrobial agents is one of most widely used classes of antimicrobial agents in outpatient and inpatient treatment. However, quinolone resistance in gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria has emerged and increased globally ...

Quinolone Resistance Mechanisms in Pneumococci [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2004
Quinolones are widely used in the treatment of respiratory infections, in large part because of their activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae and other commonly encountered respiratory tract pathogens. Pneumococcal isolates that are resistant to these "respiratory quinolones" have now begun to emerge. Resistance is attributable to mutations affecting

Activity of telithromycin against 26 quinolone-resistant pneumococci with known quinolone-resistance mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Microbiology and Infection, 2001
NCCLS agar dilution was used to test activity of telithromycin compared to clarithromycin, penicillin G, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, sparfloxacin and moxifloxacin against 26 pneumococci with defined quinolone resistance (type II topoisomerase and efflux) mechanisms.

Establishment of multiplex PCR for detection of genes related to Quinolone resistance

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Science, Technology and Engineering, 2018
Background/aims: It has been shown that quinolone resistance arises due to mutations in the quinolone resistance-determining regions of the drug targets.

Shigella sonnei genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis indicate recent global dissemination from Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Shigella are human-adapted Escherichia coli that have gained the ability to invade the human gut mucosa and cause dysentery1,2, spreading efficiently via low-dose fecal-oral transmission3,4. Historically, S.

The prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance and ESBL-production in Enterobacteriaceae isolated from urinary tract infections

open access: yesInfection and Drug Resistance, 2018
Introduction β-lactam and fluoroquinolone antibiotics are usually used for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) and extended spectrum β ...

Increased quinolone resistance among typhoid Salmonella isolated from Egyptian patients

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2014
Introduction: Typhoid fever is endemic in Egypt; and quinolones are the empirical treatment of choice. There are very limited data reporting quinolone resistance among Egyptian typhoidal Salmonella isolates.

Quinolone resistance mutations in the faecal microbiota of Swedish travellers to India [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: International travel contributes to the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria over the world. Most studies addressing travel-related changes in the faecal flora have focused on specific mobile resistance genes, or depended on culturing of ...
