Ir(III)-Naphthoquinone complex as a platform for photocatalytic activity

open access: yesJournal of Photochemistry and Photobiology, 2022
Inspired by the primary events that take place in Photosystem II (PSII), we designed and synthesized a heteroleptic Ir(III) complex featuring an attached naphthoquinone (NQ) as an electron transfer (ET) auxiliary reminiscent of the plastoquinone electron

Microsomal superoxide anion production and NADPH-oxidation in a series of 22 aziridinylbenzoquinones [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Several 2,5-bis(1-aziridinyl)-1,4-benzoquinones (BABQs) can be activated to alkylating species by reduction of the quinone moiety. On the other hand, cytotoxicity of these compounds can be induced by redox cycling.

Characterization of theThreshold for NAD(P)H:quinone Oxidoreductase Activity in Intact Sulforaphane-treated Pulmonary Arterial Endothelial Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Treatment of bovine pulmonary arterial endothelial cells in culture with the phase II enzyme inducer sulforaphane (5 μM, 24 h; sulf-treated) increased cell-lysate NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase (NQO1) activity by 5.7 ± 0.6 (mean ± SEM)-fold, but intact ...

A New Quinone-Based Inhibitor of Mitochondrial Complex I in D-Conformation, Producing Invasion Reduction and Sensitization to Venetoclax in Breast Cancer Cells

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2023
Mitochondrial Complex I plays a crucial role in the proliferation, chemoresistance, and metastasis of breast cancer (BC) cells. This highlights it as an attractive target for anti-cancer drugs.

Electrodes modified with lipid membranes to study quinone oxidoreductases

open access: yes, 2009
Quinone oxidoreductases are a class of membrane enzymes that catalyse the oxidation or reduction of membrane-bound quinols/quinones. The conversion of quinone/quinol by these enzymes is difficult to study because of the hydrophobic nature of the enzymes ...

Electrocoagulation of Quinone Pigments

open access: yesMolecules, 2006
Some representative quinones, viz. one naphthoquinone (plumbagin) and five anthraquinones (alizarin, purpurin, chrysazin, emodin, and anthrarufin), were subjected to electrocoagulation.

Physiological Evidence for Isopotential Tunneling in the Electron Transport Chain of Methane-Producing Archaea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Many, but not all, organisms use quinones to conserve energy in their electron transport chains. Fermentative bacteria and methane-producing archaea (methanogens) do not produce quinones but have devised other ways to generate ATP. Methanophenazine (MPh)

Organocatalytic synthesis of axially chiral atropisomers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This review summarises the recent progress made in the organocatalytic synthesis of atropisomeric compounds. Methodologies based on dynamic kinetic resolution and direct access to BINOL-like biaryls are described.

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.
