Synergy of Quorum Quenching Enzyme and Quorum Sensing Inhibitor in Inhibiting P.aeruginosa Quorum Sensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
ABSTRACT The threat of antibiotic resistant bacteria has called for alternative antimicrobial strategies that would mitigate the increase of classical resistance mechanism. Many bacteria employ quorum sensing (QS) to govern the production of virulence genes and formation of drug-resistance biofilms.

Engineered Optogenetic Circuits In Yeast with Self‐Sustained Outputs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Optogenetic quorum‐sensing (OptoQS) circuit enables Saccharomyces cerevisiae to record transient light stimulus with self‐sustained outputs. Panel a indicates the design of the OptoQS circuit based on G‐protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling cascade. Panel b indicates the mode of action of surrogate messenger‐mediated signal transmission at the cell

The role of cell to cell interactions and quorum sensing in formation of biofilms in drinking water bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa in drinking water distribution systems readily colonize the pipe surfaces and form biofilms.

Quorum sensing as a method for improving sclerotiorin production in Penicillium sclerotiorum

open access: yes, 2010
Quorum sensing has been extensively studied in the bacterial kingdom but little is known about it in filamentous fungi. gamma-Butyrolactones have been established as quorum sensing molecules in Gram-negative bacteria (as acyl-homoserine lactones) and ...

Microblasting Wound Dressings Mechanically Disrupt Polymicrobial Biofilms to Enhance Healing in Treatment‐Resistant Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Treatment‐resistant wounds caused by polymicrobial biofilms are refractory to conventional therapies due to the dense extracellular matrices. We developed μBLAST, a microblasting wound dressing that combines MnO2‐doped biosilica and a H2O2‐releasing mesh to generate localized oxygen microbubbles that mechanically disrupt biofilms.

ZrO2 Aerogel‐Supported Pd Nanoparticles for Photothermal CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanoparticle‐based aerogels are promising catalysts for photothermal reactions due to optical transparency, high surface area, and low thermal conductivity. Here, we present deposition of Pd nanoparticles on ZrO2 aerogel granules by a wet‐impregnation approach.

Research progress on the mechanisms by which plant-originated quorum sensing inhibitors inhibit pathogenic bacteria of acne

open access: yesPifu-xingbing zhenliaoxue zazhi
The main acne-causing bacteria are Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Quorum sensing, an important factor for bacterial survival, is closely associated with expression of bacterial virulence factors and biofilm

Can the natural diversity of quorum sensing advance synthetic biology?

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2015
Quorum-sensing networks enable bacteria to sense and respond to chemical signals produced by neighboring bacteria. They are widespread: over one hundred morphologically and genetically distinct species of eubacteria are known to use quorum sensing to ...

Structural studies of Vibrio cholerae quorum sensing proteins

open access: yes, 2012
The spread of cholera is always associated with contaminated food or water and this is the reason this disease has been endemic in developing countries for centuries due to their lack of proper sanitation facilities and poor or no infrastructure for ...

Biophysical investigation of bacterial aggregation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In nature, bacteria usually exist as aggregates, in order to withstand changes in environmental conditions. Bacterial aggregation is of great significance in the field of biotechnology, environmental studies and medicine.
