Effects of Intubation Duration on Trachea: A Histopathological Study
This study evaluated the histopathological effects of prolonged endotracheal intubation on the human trachea using biopsy specimens obtained during tracheotomy. Prolonged intubation was associated with progressive inflammatory and structural changes, with tracheal dilatation and perichondritis increasing significantly after 14 days.
