Identification and characterization of rad51 of Pneumocystis

Gene, 2007
Rad51, a eukaryotic homolog of RecA, is an important protein involved in DNA recombination and repair. We have characterized rad51 of Pneumocystis carinii and Pneumocystis murina. rad51 is a single copy gene that encodes a 1.2 kb mRNA, which contains an open reading frame encoding 343 amino acids.

Crystal structure of a Rad51 filament

Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, 2004
Rad51, the major eukaryotic homologous recombinase, is important for the repair of DNA damage and the maintenance of genomic diversity and stability. The active form of this DNA-dependent ATPase is a helical filament within which the search for homology and strand exchange occurs.

RAD51, genomic stability, and tumorigenesis

Cancer Letters, 2005
Genomic instability is characteristic of malignant cells, and a strong correlation exists between abnormal karyotype and tumorigenicity. Increased expression of the homologous recombination and DNA repair protein Rad51 has been reported in immortalized cell lines and multiple primary tumor cell types which could alter recombination pathways to ...

RAD51 Paralogs and RAD51 Paralog Complexes BCDX2 and CX3 Interact with BRCA2

Homologous recombination (HR) is an important mechanism for repairing DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and preserving genome integrity. Pathogenic mutations in the HR proteins BRCA2 and the RAD51 paralogs predispose individuals to breast, ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancer.

INVESTIGAZIONE DELL’INTERAZIONE BRCA2-RAD51

La Chimica e l'Industria
This research project aimed at elucidating the BRCA2-RAD51 interaction integrating computational and experimental approaches. Obtained results offer new mechanistic insights into how BRCA2 recruits RAD51 in the cytosol.
