Demo 02-26 See-Saw Reaction Carts
This demonstration illustrates action and reaction forces using a center of mass balance board. Two carts are held together by a spring while sitting in the middle of a long board balanced on a fulcrum, as illustrated in Figure 1.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Rate constants for the reaction of NO and HO2 with peroxy radicals formed from the reaction of OH, Cl or NO3 with alkenes, dienes and α,β-unsaturated carbonyls [PDF]
Rate constants for the gas-phase reaction of NO and HO2 radicals with 33 peroxy radicals are presented. The peroxy radicals are derived from the addition of either OH, Cl, or NO3 radicals, followed by addition of O2, to a series of alkenes ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Ethanol Dehydrogenation to Acetaldehyde over Activated Carbons-Derived from Coffee Residue
This study focuses on the production of acetaldehyde from ethanol by catalytic dehydrogenation using activated carbon catalysts derived from coffee ground residues and commercial activated carbon catalyst. For the synthesis of activated carbon catalysts,

An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This
