Characterizing RecA-Independent Induction of Shiga toxin2-encoding Phages by EDTA Treatment

open access: yes, 2013
The bacteriophage life cycle has an important role in Shiga toxin (Stx) expression. The induction of Shiga toxin-encoding phages (Stx phages) increases toxin production as a result of replication of the phage genome, and phage lysis of the host cell also

Functional Characterization of Excision Repair and RecA-Dependent Recombinational DNA Repair in Campylobacter jejuni

open access: yes, 2009
The presence and functionality of DNA repair mechanisms in Campylobacter jejuni are largely unknown. In silico analysis of the complete translated genome of C.

Purification and characterization of the RecA protein from Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
The strict human pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the only causative agent of the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhea. The recA gene from N. gonorrhoeae is essential for DNA repair, natural DNA transformation, and pilin antigenic variation, all ...

Structure of the hDmc1-ssDNA filament reveals the principles of its architecture

open access: yes, 2010
In eukaryotes, meiotic recombination is a major source of genetic diversity, but its defects in humans lead to abnormalities such as Down's, Klinefelter's and other syndromes.

Movement Disorders in Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathies

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Monogenic developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEE) frequently feature co‐occurring movement disorders. Gene discovery has expanded epilepsy‐dyskinesia syndromes (EDS) from classic associations such as stereotypies in Rett syndrome to PRRT2‐related infantile seizures with paroxysmal dyskinesia and crouched gait in SCN1A ...

Transcriptional analysis of the recA gene of Streptococcus thermophilus

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2006
Background RecA is a highly conserved prokaryotic protein that not only plays several important roles connected to DNA metabolism but also affects the cell response to various stress conditions.

Redox controls RecA protein activity via reversible oxidation of its methionine residues

open access: yeseLife, 2021
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) cause damage to DNA and proteins. Here, we report that the RecA recombinase is itself oxidized by ROS. Genetic and biochemical analyses revealed that oxidation of RecA altered its DNA repair and DNA recombination activities.

Proteome Analysis of Corynebacterium diphtheriae–Macrophage Interaction

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Contact of Corynebacterium diphtheriae with macrophages induces adaptations on both bacterial and cellular sides. The study presented here was aiming to shed light on the simultaneous intracellular adaptation of the bacteria and changes in the proteome of the phagocytes in response to the internalization of C. diphtheriae.

Single and dual RPA‐CRISPR/Cas assays for point‐of‐need detection of Stewart's wilt pathogen (Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii) of corn and Maize dwarf mosaic virus

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1988-1999, April 2025.
Schematic diagram of the single and dual RPA‐CRISPR/Cas12a/13a diagnostic assays for the detection of Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii and Maize dwarf mosaic virus. The validated assays provide a useful and sensitive molecular tool for detecting two quarantine pathogens of maize within a minimal resource framework suitable for fast‐tracking the ...
