Insulin-like growth factor receptor signaling in breast tumor epithelium protects cells from endoplasmic reticulum stress and regulates the tumor microenvironment

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research, 2018
Background Early analyses of human breast cancer identified high expression of the insulin-like growth factor type 1 receptor (IGF-1R) correlated with hormone receptor positive breast cancer and associated with a favorable prognosis, whereas low ...

LIN28B Promotes Cancer Cell Dissemination and Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Children diagnosed with high‐risk neuroblastoma have a 5‐year event‐free survival rate of less than 50% and poor outcomes after recurrence. Deregulation of the LIN28B oncogene can be addressed in these patients. Upregulation of LIN28B is shown to support the metastatic cascade.

Treatment with N- and C-terminal peptides of parathyroid hormone-related protein partly compensate the skeletal abnormalities in IGF-I deficient mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) deficiency causes growth delay, and IGF-I has been shown to partially mediate bone anabolism by parathyroid hormone (PTH). PTH-related protein (PTHrP) is abundant in bone, and has osteogenic features by poorly defined

Obesity and cancer: existing and new hypotheses for a causal connection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Existing explanations of obesity-associated cancer emphasise direct mutagenic effects of dietary components or hormonal imbalance. Some of these hypotheses are reviewed briefly, but recent evidence suggests a major role for chronic inflammation in cancer

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Antagonistic Autoantibodies to Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 Receptor Associate with Poor Physical Strength [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Natural autoantibodies to the IGF1 receptor (IGF1R-aAb) have been described in relation to Graves' ophthalmopathy. Other physiological roles of natural IGF1R-aAb are not known. We hypothesized that IGF1R-aAb may be related to muscle development.

Novel Drug‐Testing Platform for Vascular Injury‐induced Intimal Hyperplasia Using a Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a 3D vascular injury model using a microphysiological system that mimics key features of intimal hyperplasia. Antiproliferative drugs reduced VSMC proliferation but worsened endothelialdenudation. A combination of diphenyleneiodonium and quercetin effectively reduced proliferation and migration of VSMC and inflammation while ...

Roles of Type 1 Insulin-Like Growth Factor (IGF) Receptor and IGF-II in Growth Regulation: Evidence From a Patient Carrying Both an 11p Paternal Duplication and 15q Deletion

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
We report an original association of complex genetic defects in a patient carrying both an 11p paternal duplication, resulting in the double expression of insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2), as reported in Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, and a 15q terminal

Astragalus polysaccharide ameliorates insulin resistance in HepG2 cells through activating the STAT5/IGF‐1 pathway

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, 2023
Background Insulin resistance (IR) is considered as a major factor initiating type 2 diabetes mellitus and can lead to a reduction in glucose uptake that mainly occurs in the liver.

Mini Review: Effect of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and SGLT-2 Inhibitors on the Growth Hormone/IGF Axis

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
Accumulating evidence supports the early use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) and sodium glucose transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2is) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
