Regulation of L1 expression and retrotransposition by melatonin and its receptor: implications for cancer risk associated with light exposure at night. [PDF]
Expression of long interspersed element-1 (L1) is upregulated in many human malignancies. L1 can introduce genomic instability via insertional mutagenesis and DNA double-strand breaks, both of which may promote cancer. Light exposure at night, a recently

The orphan GPR50 receptor specifically inhibits MT1 melatonin receptor function through heterodimerization [PDF]
One-third of the approximately 400 nonodorant G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are still orphans. Although a considerable number of these receptors are likely to transduce cellular signals in response to ligands that remain to be identified, they may also have ligand-independent functions.

Circadian Pattern of Melatonin MT1 and MT2 Receptor Localization in the Rat Suprachiasmatic Nucleus
The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) is the circadian pacemaker. The pineal hormone melatonin is involved in the regulation of circadian phase. As a part of the circadian system its synthesis and secretion is under SCN control.

Identification of pathway-biased and deleterious melatonin receptor mutants in autism spectrum disorders and in the general population. [PDF]
Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant and a synchronizer of many physiological processes. Alteration of the melatonin pathway has been reported in circadian disorders, diabetes and autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

Recent advances on the mechanisms regulating cholangiocyte proliferation and the significance of the neuroendocrine regulation of cholangiocyte pathophysiology [PDF]
Cholangiocytes are epithelial cells lining the biliary epithelium. Cholangiocytes play several key roles in the modification of ductal bile and are also the target cells in chronic cholestatic liver diseases (i.e., cholangiopathies) such as PSC, PBC ...

The Regulatory Mechanism of MLT/MT1 Signaling on the Growth of Antler Mesenchymal Cells
Melatonin (MLT) plays an important role in regulating the physiological cycle of seasonal breeding animals. Melatonin receptor I (MT1) is effectively expressed in the cambium layer of deer antler.

Circadian regulation of reproduction: From gamete to offspring [PDF]
P01326625; Grants: GNT0519315Few challenges are more critical to the survival of a species than reproduction. To ensure reproductive success, myriad aspects of physiology and behaviour need to be tightly orchestrated within the animal, as well as timed ...

MT1 Melatonin Receptor Expression in Warthin’s Tumor
We contribute the first immunohistochemical study of MT1 melatonin receptor in Warthin's tumor and normal parotid gland. All 14 Warthin's tumors studied showed intense cytoplasmic positivity for MT1 receptor in all cylindrical epithelial cells lining spaces and a less intense positivity in basal cells.

Melatonin Inhibits Androgen Receptor Splice Variant-7 (AR-V7)-Induced Nuclear Factor-Kappa B (NF-κB) Activation and NF-κB Activator-Induced AR-V7 Expression in Prostate Cancer Cells: Potential Implications for the Use of Melatonin in Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (CRPC) Therapy [PDF]
A major current challenge in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer, which can be initially controlled by medical or surgical castration, is the development of effective, safe, and affordable therapies against progression of the disease to the stage ...

Circadian rhythms and hormonal homeostasis: Pathophysiological implications [PDF]
Over recent years, a deeper comprehension of the molecular mechanisms that control biological clocks and circadian rhythms has been achieved. In fact, many studies have contributed to unravelling the importance of the molecular clock for the regulation ...
