Podocyte Markers as Diagnostic Biomarkers of Diabetic Nephropathy: A Case–Control Comparison to Haemato‐Biochemical Markers in a Ghanaian Population

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 3, May 2026.
This study shows that urinary nephrin and related podocyte injury markers are elevated among people living with diabetes in Ghana, particularly those with macroalbuminuria. Nephrin demonstrated discriminatory ability, supporting its role as an exploratory biomarker for diabetic nephropathy rather than a standalone diagnostic tool.

Mechanistic Insights Into Ultrasound‐Assisted Plant Stilbenes Sustainable Extraction Using Hydrophilic NADES: A Case Study of Cajaninstilbene Acid With Integrated NMR, COSMO‐RS, and MD Simulation

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 3, May 2026.
Schematic illustration of green NADES extraction by using CSA as a model compound. ABSTRACT Stilbenes are bioactive phytochemicals with notable health benefits, yet their extraction is hindered by hydrophobicity and reliance on toxic solvents. This study introduces a green, sustainable approach for stilbene extraction using hydrophilic natural deep ...

Conjugated 2′‐Fucosyllactose–Potato Protein Hydrolysate as Novel Prebiotics

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 3, May 2026.
This study introduces a novel protein‐containing prebiotic based on 2′‐FL‐PPH Maillard conjugates micelles that co‐deliver proteins and carbohydrates to the colon to selectively nourish colonic probiotics. These digestion‐resistant micelles enhanced Bifidobacteria, SCFAs, gut barrier integrity, and metabolic health more effectively than conventional ...

Machine Learning Unveils Dietary Antioxidants as Influential Factors for Diabetes‐Cancer Comorbidity: Insights From National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study employs an interpretable machine learning framework to predict diabetes‐cancer comorbidity, with the Random Forest and LightGBM models demonstrating exceptional performance. SHAP value analysis reveals that while advanced age and cardiometabolic dysfunctions serve as primary risk drivers, dietary antioxidants (particularly daidzein and ...

Neuroprotective Effects of Carnosine Against Corticosterone‐Induced Depression and Memory Impairment

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
This main findings of the study and illustrates the key workflow. ABSTRACT Corticosterone (Crt) is reported to induce oxidative stress in experimental animals. Carnosine (Crn), a well‐known dipeptide antioxidant synthesized endogenously from β‐alanine and L‐histidine, neutralizes oxidative stress. The current study examines the influences of Crn on Crt‐

Utilizing Life's Crucial 9 for Rheumatoid Arthritis Risk Prediction: A Machine Learning Approach Based on NHANES Data

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study based on NHANES 2011–2018 (16,154 adults) found that higher LC9 score is an independent protective factor for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with each 1‐unit increase associated with a 27% lower risk (OR = 0.73). An XGBoost machine learning model integrating LC9 and clinical covariates achieved excellent predictive performance (test AUC = 0.987).

Increased Serum GLO‐1 Levels Are Associated With the Pathophysiology and Development of Obsessive‐Compulsive Disorder: Findings From a Case‐Control Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Obsessive‐compulsive disorder (OCD) is a complex neuropsychiatric disorder indicated by intrusive thoughts and recurrent actions. Glyoxalase‐1 (GLO‐1) is a metabolic enzyme linked to numerous psychiatric disorders, and its role in OCD remains elusive.

Melatonin and Quercetin Co‐Treatment Attenuates Hepatic Damage in Diabetic Rats by Mitigating Oxidative Stress and Inflammation

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 5, May 2026.
Quercetin and melatonin, alone or combined, effectively protect the liver in diabetic rats. The antioxidants reduce hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, and inflammation, preventing hepatic damage. ABSTRACT Liver complications in diabetes are very common, contributing to a high mortality rate, making it essential to develop strategies to minimize this ...
