Pre‐Diagnostic Plasma Carotenoids, Tocopherols and Retinol Levels, and Risk of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Our goal was to examine whether pre‐diagnostic plasma carotenoids and tocopherols are associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Methods A nested case–control study within 4 United States cohorts, where 154 participants with pre‐diagnostic blood‐draw, were diagnosed during follow‐up with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Controls

Nicotinamide riboside and pterostilbene reduces markers of hepatic inflammation in NAFLD: A double‐blind, placebo‐controlled clinical trial

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
NRPT 1X reduces ALT and ceramide 14:0 in 65% of subjects as compared to only 28% in the placebo group. Abstract Background and Aims The prevalence of NAFLD is increasing globally and on a path to becoming the most frequent cause of chronic liver disease. Strategies for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD are urgently needed.

Mechanisms of cytokine release induced by electronegative LDL in monocytes. The role of ceramide and the receptors CD14-TLR4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014

The antagonist of P2Y11 receptor NF157 ameliorates oxidized LDL-induced vascular endothelial inflammation

open access: yesArtificial Cells, Nanomedicine, and Biotechnology, 2019
Atherosclerosis is the chronic inflammatory disease, and inflammation-elicited endothelial activation is an early event in the development of atherosclerosis.

The Functional Characterization of PCSK9's Binding Interactions with LDL and the LDL Receptor

open access: yes, 2020
Elevated plasma cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) hinders the uptake of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) by mediating degradation of LDL receptors (LDLRs) in the ...

Comparison of Receptor‐Mediated Endocytosis and Its Application to Enhance DNA Transfection by TFAMoplex

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
We developed an assay to distinguish cellular binding from internalization. Compatible with microscopy and high‐throughput screening, the method identifies ligand‐mediated uptake. Applying top candidates to a protein‐based DNA carrier enhanced transfection efficiency, providing a rational strategy to improve non‐viral gene delivery systems.

Enhanced blood–brain barrier penetration and glioma therapy mediated by T7 peptide-modified low-density lipoprotein particles

open access: yesDrug Delivery, 2018
Therapeutic outcome for the treatment of glioma was often limited due to the non-targeted nature and low permeability of drugs across the blood-brain barrier (BBB).

New lipid therapies: PCSK9 inhibitors

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Endocrinology Case Reports, 2016
Pharmacologic therapy reduces cardiovascular risk in a variety of primary and secondary prevention clinical situations in addition to lifestyle modifications. Low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a key mediator of atherogenesis.

Stabilization of PUFA‐Rich Mayonnaise Against Lipid Oxidation: A Review of the Last Three Decades of Research

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mayonnaise, a widely consumed oil‐in‐water emulsion, is highly susceptible to lipid oxidation due to its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and the presence of pro‐oxidant factors such as low pH and iron from egg yolk. Over the past three decades, extensive research has focused on understanding oxidation mechanisms, analytical
