Lipoprotein receptors and atherogenic receptor-mediated mechanisms
Current Opinion in Lipidology, 1994The liver plays a decisive role in the regulation of the plasma levels of atherogenic lipoproteins. The primary liver interaction site of chylomicron remnants and VLDL remnants (beta-VLDL) is still unidentified, whereas the subsequent cellular uptake is likely to be mediated in concert by the LDL receptor-related protein and the LDL receptor.

Hypertriglyceridemia: Lipoprotein Receptors and Atherosclerosis
1985We have shown first, that apoB mediates the binding of small VLDL Sf 20-60 and IDL, as well as LDL, to the LDL receptor. Second, apoE of an appropriate, accessible conformation is required for the binding of large VLDL to the LDL receptor; HTG-VLDL Sf greater than 60 but not normal VLDL Sf greater than 60 have this apoE population.

Receptor Interactions Controlling Lipoprotein Metabolism
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, 1984Lipoprotein receptors play a central role in lipoprotein metabolism and a major role in cholesterol homeostasis. The most completely characterized lipoprotein receptor is the LDL (low density lipoprotein) or apo-B,E(LDL) receptor. The apo-B,E(LDL) receptor is present on both hepatic and extrahepatic cells and is responsible for the metabolism of a ...

Lipoprotein receptors in Alzheimer's disease
Trends in Neurosciences, 2006Lipoprotein receptors have important roles in pathological processes that lead to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Previously, they were believed to act mainly by modulating the neuronal metabolism of cholesterol and apolipoprotein E, major risk factors for spontaneous AD.

Plasma lipoproteins and their receptors
Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 1991Apolipoproteins B and E play essential roles in the transport and endocytosis of the lipoprotein particles on which they reside. The appearance of a high-resolution structure for the receptor ligand domain of apolipoprotein E affords an opportunity to understand in detail its interaction with receptors.

Lipoprotein receptors in oocyte growth
The Clinical Investigator, 1992The transport and removal of lipoproteins from the blood in the laying hen is of particular interest because it is a system in which the massive transport of lipid to one organ (the ovary) coexists with regulatory mechanisms for the control of lipid homeostasis in extraovarian tissues.

The VLDL (very low density lipoprotein) receptor is a member of the LDL (low density lipoprotein) receptor family. The VLDL receptor binds apolipoprotein (apo) E but not apo B, and is expressed in fatty acid active tissues (heart, muscle, adipose) and macrophages abundantly.

Recognition of B2GPI by the Lipoprotein Receptors.
Blood, 2009Abstract Abstract 851 Lipoprotein receptors of the LDLR family serve as clearance receptors for beta2-glycoprotein-I (B2GPI) and as signaling receptors for the B2GPI/antibody complexes in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).

Lipoprotein receptors: beacons to neurons?
Trends in Neurosciences, 2001Lipoprotein receptors were originally considered simply as cellular transporters for cholesterol and other lipids. This view is rapidly changing. Signaling functions have recently been recognized in several members of the low-density lipoprotein receptor gene family.
