P2X3 Receptors Participate in Purinergic Inhibition of Gastrointestinal Smooth Muscle [PDF]
The ATP analogue α,β-meATP is a potent relaxant of gastrointestinal smooth muscle, but its molecular target is uncertain inside the gut. α,β-meATP relaxed the carbachol-precontracted guinea-pig taenia coli in a concentration-dependent manner (EC50, 2.0 ± 0.1 μM).

Pharmacological Characterization of P2X1 and P2X3 Purinergic Receptors in Bovine Chondrocytes [PDF]
The aim of the present study is that of characterizing, for the first time in a quantitative way, from a biochemical, physico chemical and functional point of view P2X(1) and P2X(3) purinergic receptors in bovine chondrocytes. The affinity and the potency of typical purinergic ligands were studied through competition binding experiments and their role ...

Update on Novel Purinergic P2X3 and P2X2/3 Receptor Antagonists and Their Potential Therapeutic Applications [PDF]
Introduction: Purinergic P2X3-P2X2/3 receptors are placed in nociceptive neurons' strategic location and show unique desensitization properties; hence, they represent an attractive target for many pain-related diseases. Therefore, a broad interest from academic and pharmaceutical scientists has focused on the search for P2X3 and P2X2/3 receptor ligands

Novel Capsaicin (VR1) and Purinergic (P2X3) Receptors in Hirschsprung's Intestine
Studies of Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) have shown that hypertrophic nerves in aganglionic bowel are mainly of extrinsic origin and may contain sensory elements. Recent advances have shown a specific capsaicin receptor VR1 (vanilloid receptor-1), and an ATP-gated ion channel P2X(3), which are expressed by sensory neurons. This study investigated, for ...

A Role for the Purinergic Receptor P2X3 in Astrocytes in the Mechanism of Craniofacial Neuropathic Pain [PDF]
AbstractThe purinergic receptor P2X3, expressed in the central terminals of primary nociceptive neurons in the brainstem, plays an important role in pathological pain. However, little is known about expression of P2X3in the brainstem astrocytes and its involvement in craniofacial pathologic pain. To address this issue, we investigated the expression of
