Altered retinoic acid receptors

The FASEB Journal, 1996
Structurally and functionally altered retinoic acid receptors have been associated with rare human neoplasms: acute promyelocytic leukemia and hepatocellular carcinoma. Whereas the retinoic acid receptor beta (RARbeta) rearrangement in hepatocellular carcinoma is unique, in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), RARalpha fusion to the promyelocytic ...

Identification of a retinoic acid responsive element in the retinoic acid receptor & beta;gene

Nature, 1990
Retinoic acid, the first morphogen described so far in vertebrates, is a vitamin A derivative which exerts striking effects on development and differentiation. The identification of three retinoic acid receptors as members of the nuclear receptor super-family provides an explantation for the molecular action of morphogens on gene expression. Functional

Retinoic Acid Receptor Alpha Amplifications and Retinoic Acid Sensitivity in Breast Cancers

Clinical Breast Cancer, 2013
Molecular segmentation of breast cancer allows identification of small groups of patients who present high sensitivity to targeted agents. A patient, with chemo- and trastuzumab-resistant HER2-overexpressing breast cancer, who presented concomitant acute promyelocytic leukemia, showed a response in her breast lesions to retinoic acid, arsenic, and ...

Expression of retinoic acid receptor genes and the ligand-binding selectivity of retinoic acid receptors (RAR'S)

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1990
Retinoids of a structurally new type, 4-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-2-naphthalenylcarbamoyl)benzoic acid (Am80) and (E)-4-[3-(3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)-3-oxo-1-propenyl]-benzoic acid (Ch55), were used for the investigation of retinoid receptors in some human cell lines.

Mechanisms of transactivation by retinoic acid receptors

BioEssays, 1993
AbstractRetinoids play an important role in development and differentiation(1,2). Their effect is mediated through nuclear receptors, RAR (α, β and γ) and RXR (α, β and γ),Abbreviations. RAR: retinoic acid receptor; RXR: retinoid X receptor; T3:thyroid hormone receptor; VD3R: vitamin D3 receptor; PPAR: peroxisome proliferator activated receptor; EcR ...

Induction of retinoic acid receptor-beta by retinoic acid is cell specific.

Endocrinology, 1993
The retinoic acid (RA) receptor-beta (RAR beta) gene is dramatically up-regulated by RA in F9 teratocarcinoma cells due to the presence of an RA-responsive element (RARE) in its promoter. Remarkably, however, RAR beta mRNA was essentially unaffected by RA in rat pituitary GH3 cells, even though the GH gene was induced by RA, and these cells express ...

Nuclear retinoic acid receptors: Conductors of the retinoic acid symphony during development

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2012
The vitamin A derivative, retinoic acid (RA), is essential for embryonic development through the activation of cognate nuclear receptors, RARs, which work as ligand dependent regulators of transcription. In vitro studies revealed how RARs control gene expression at the molecular level and now it appears that it is fine-tuned by a phosphorylation code ...

Identification of a second human retinoic acid receptor

Nature, 1988
We have previously described a human complementary DNA that encodes a novel protein which is homologous to members of the steroid/thyroid nuclear receptor multigene family. This novel protein (hap for hepatoma) exhibits strong homology with the human retinoic acid receptor (RAR) which has been recently characterized.

Retinoic acid receptors, hematopoiesis and leukemogenesis

Current Opinion in Hematology, 2008
All-trans retinoic acid therapy of acute promyelocytic leukemia represents the most successful example of differentiation-induction therapy in clinical oncology. However, acute promyelocytic leukemia represents only a small minority (10-15%) of the myeloid leukemias.
