Graphene Nanoflake Uptake Mediated by Scavenger Receptors [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2019
The biological interactions of graphene have been extensively investigated over the last 10 years. However, very little is known about graphene interactions with the cell surface and how the graphene internalization process is driven and mediated by specific recognition sites at the interface with the cell.

Illuminating the Origins of Ferroelectric‐Induced Photocurrent and Hole Lifetime Enhancement in BaTiO3 Photoanodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The use of ferroelectric polarization to enhance photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic activity is an innovative, and increasingly studied route to improve the spatial separation of charge carriers and therefore enhance catalytic efficiency. These results demonstrate how the intrinsic properties of a ferroelectric film can extend charge carrier ...

Structures and high and low affinity ligand binding properties of murine type I and type II macrophage scavenger receptors

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1993
Macrophage scavenger receptors have been implicated in various macrophage-associated processes, including atherosclerosis and clearance of bacterial endotoxin. They bind to a wide variety of polyanionic ligands and display complex binding characteristics.

Nanofillers Reinforcing Biopolymer Composites for Sustainable Food Packaging Applications: A State‐of‐the‐Art Review

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biopolymers are sustainable, biodegradable alternatives to petroleum‐based plastics for food packaging. Its adoption is often limited by poor mechanical strength, barrier properties, and improved thermal stability through the incorporation of nanofillers.

Transducer Materials Mediated Deep Brain Stimulation in Neurological Disorders

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review discusses advanced transducer materials for improving deep brain stimulation (DBS) in neurological disorders. These materials respond to light, ultrasound, or magnetic fields, enabling precise, less invasive neuromodulation. Their stimulus‐responsive properties enhance neural control and adaptive therapy, paving the way for next‐generation ...

Factors regulating the activities of the low density lipoprotein receptor and the scavenger receptor on human monocyte-macrophages.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1981
Improved techniques of cell isolation resulted in 90 to 100 million monocytes from a single donor. Addition of low density lipoprotein (LDL) to to cultures of these cells resulted in the down regulation of LDL receptor activity.

Signaling pathways required for macrophage scavenger receptor-mediated phagocytosis: analysis by scanning cytometry

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2008
Background Scavenger receptors are important components of the innate immune system in the lung, allowing alveolar macrophages to bind and phagocytose numerous unopsonized targets.

Dual‐Nanoparticle Engineered Hydrogel Reverses Bicellular Oxidative Stress to Accelerate Diabetic Fracture Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
CD105‐LNPs and PS‐LNPs can deliver α‐lipoic acid to bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and bone marrow‐derived macrophages, reversing high glucose‐induced oxidative stress while enhancing osteogenesis and M2 polarization. Integrating both nanoparticles into glucose‐responsive hyaluronic acid hydrogel forms DLNPs@HA hydrogel, which accelerates diabetic ...
