Role of folate metabolizing genes and homocysteine in mothers of Down syndrome children

open access: yesTzu Chi Medical Journal, 2022
Objectives: Folates are essential nutrients required for the synthesis of DNA/RNA in cell division and segregation. Folates are reduced and methylated in the liver with the help of enzymes such as methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), MTR MTRR ...

Microbial Metabolic Capacity for Intestinal Folate Production and Modulation of Host Folate Receptors

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Microbial metabolites, including B complex vitamins contribute to diverse aspects of human health. Folate, or vitamin B9, refers to a broad category of biomolecules that include pterin, para-aminobenzoic acid (pABA), and glutamate subunits.

CX3CL1 in Early Detection of Alzheimer's Disease: Plasma Dynamics Across Age and Disease Stages

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Backgrounds Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by amyloid‐beta plaques, tau tangles, and neuroinflammation. C‐X3‐C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CX3CL1, also known as fractalkine), a neuroimmune chemokine implicated in AD pathogenesis, shows inconsistent alterations in plasma/serum across studies.

Repression of Human Reduced Folate Carrier Gene Expression by Wild Type p53 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2001
The relationship between loss of functional p53 and human reduced folate carrier (hRFC) levels and function was examined in REH lymphoblastic leukemia cells, which express wild type p53, and in p53-null K562 cells (K562(pTet-on/p53)) engineered to express wild type p53 under control of a tetracycline-inducible promoter.

MPI‐Guided Photothermal Therapy of Prostate Cancer Using Stem Cell Delivery of Magnetotheranostic Nanoflowers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tumor‐tropic human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) were used as delivery vehicles for magnetotheranostic gold–iron oxide nanoflowers. Magnetic particle imaging of the iron component demonstrated widespread intratumoral distribution and sustained retention in contrast to injection of naked nanoflowers.

Reduced folate carrier 1 (RFC1) gene polymorphisms among acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients

open access: yesJournal of Biological Research
Reduced Folate Carrier1 (RFC1) gene's metabolism is crucial for DNA synthesis, epigenetic mechanisms, and cellular methylation events. Nonetheless, RFC1 polymorphisms have drawn a lot of interest in current medical genetics studies. The objectives of the

Methionine synthase A2756G and reduced folate carrier1 A80G gene polymorphisms as maternal risk factors for Down syndrome in Egypt

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Medical Human Genetics, 2016
Background: Polymorphisms of genes encoding enzymes involved in folate metabolism have long been hypothesized to be maternal risk factors for Down syndrome, however, results are conflicting and inconclusive.

Redefining Therapies for Drug‐Resistant Tuberculosis: Synergistic Effects of Antimicrobial Peptides, Nanotechnology, and Computational Design

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial peptide (AMP)‐loaded nanocarriers provide a multifunctional strategy to combat drug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. By enhancing intracellular delivery, bypassing efflux pumps, and disrupting bacterial membranes, this platform restores phagolysosome fusion and macrophage function.

Evaluation of the Dual Impact of Nanotechnologies on Health and Environment Through Alternative Bridging Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how alternative invertebrate and small‐vertebrate models advance the evaluation of nanomaterials across medicine and environmental science. By bridging cellular and organismal levels, these models enable integrated assessment of toxicity, biodistribution, and therapeutic performance.
