Chitosan-Grafted Copolymers and Chitosan-Ligand Conjugates as Matrices for Pulmonary Drug Delivery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Recently, much attention has been given to pulmonary drug delivery by means of nanosized systems to treat both local and systemic diseases. Among the differentmaterials used for the production of nanocarriers, chitosan enjoys high popularity due to its ...

Cytosolic Phosphoenoylpyruvate Carboxykinase Deficiency: Clinical, Biochemical, and Genetic Features of Five Non‐Finnish Patients

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cytosolic phosphoenoylpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK‐C) is an essential, rate‐limiting enzyme in the gluconeogenesis pathway. PEPCK‐C deficiency presents with hypoglycaemia, hyperlactataemia and hepatopathy, and was first reported in association with bi‐allelic PCK1 variants in 2014.

Mucin Glycoprotein Nanoparticles Enable a Selective Antisense Therapy for Oncogenic MicroRNAs

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Mucin glycoproteins are turned into nanoparticles by employing synthetic DNA strands, which have a dual function: they stabilize the nanoparticles and act as binding sites for intracellular miRNA‐21. Thus, upon internalization into tumor cells, these mucin nanoparticles can deplete miRNA‐21 from the cytosol, which induces apoptosis in vitro and in vivo.

Interleukin-6 regulates anti-arthritic effect of methotrexate via reduction of SLC19A1 expression in a mouse arthritis model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
IntroductionMethotrexate (MTX) enters cells via the reduced folate carrier SLC19A1, suggesting that SLC19A1 is associated with the efficacy of MTX. We here examined the relationship between the efficacy of MTX and the expression of SLC19A1 in glucose 6 ...

Decoding the Pathophysiology of Autoimmune Diseases—Mechanism, Triggers, and Nanotherapeutics: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This review highlights how autoimmune diseases arise from intertwined immunological, genetic, and environmental factors, emphasizing gut microbiota dysbiosis as a pivotal driver. It outlines emerging nanotechnology‐based strategies—such as liposomes, hydrogels, and polymeric nanoparticles—that enhance targeted drug delivery, minimize systemic toxicity,

Role of pharmacogenetics for the improvement of cancer treatment

open access: yesZdravniški Vestnik, 2007
Background: Cancer chemotherapy is associated with a great heterogeneity in patient response that makes the prediction of tumor response and/or drug toxicity very difficult.

Incorporation of a selective sigma-2 receptor ligand enhances uptake of liposomes by multiple cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: The sigma-2 receptor is an attractive target for tumor imaging and targeted therapy because it is overexpressed in multiple types of solid tumors, including prostate cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer.

The genetics of folate metabolism and maternal risk of birth of a child with Down syndrome and associated congenital heart defects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Almost 15 years ago it was hypothesized that polymorphisms of genes encoding enzymes involved in folate metabolism could lead to aberrant methylation of peri-centromeric regions of chromosome 21, favoring its abnormal segregation during maternal meiosis.

The role of folate transport in antifolate drug action in Trypanosoma brucei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The aim of this study was to identify and characterize mechanisms of resistance to antifolate drugs in African trypanosomes. Genome-wide RNAi library screens were undertaken in bloodstream form Trypanosoma brucei exposed to the antifolates methotrexate ...

Overview of Encapsulated Lysine and Methionine and Their Impacts on Transition Cow Performance and Health

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The transition period in dairy cows, spanning 3 weeks before and after calving, is a critical phase characterized by increased nutrient demands, reduced dry matter intake (DMI), and elevated risk of metabolic disorders such as negative nutrient balance (NNB), lipolysis, proteolysis, and oxidative stress.
