Nebulized Lidocaine in the Treatment of Refractory Cough
Chest, 1994A 52-year-old man with intractable cough refractory to standard therapy was treated successfully with chronic nebulized lidocaine. He has experienced no adverse effects from the lidocaine except for occasional mild dysphonia. Measured serum levels of lidocaine after treatment have never exceeded 4.0 mg/dl.

The Efficacy of Bradanicline in Refractory Chronic Cough
Airway pharmacology and treatment, 2020Background: Several clinical studies have implicated nicotine in reducing cough reflex sensitivity in both healthy smoking and non-smoking subjects. Bradanicline, a highly selective α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonist, may therefore be effective for refractory chronic cough (RCC), possibly through sensory gating in the central nervous ...

P5 Prevalence of refractory chronic cough in a tertiary cough clinic
It’s time to talk about cough and spit, 2018Introduction and objectives In the past, some respiratory centres reported success rates of 98% when treating chronic cough based on identifying and treating underlying conditions such as asthma, nasal disease and gastro-oesophageal reflux. However, cases refractory to treatment of potential underlying causes are increasingly recognised, especially in

Refractory chronic cough (RCC) significantly impairs patient quality of life and poses a major challenge in clinical management. However, little is known about the healthcare resource utilization (HRU) of patients with RCC.The goal of our study is to describe the HRU and associated costs of RCC patients and those with non-refractory chronic cough (non ...

Chronic Refractory Cough as a Sensory Neuropathy: Evidence From a Reinterpretation of Cough Triggers
Journal of Voice, 2011The aims of this study were to examine cough triggers in individuals with chronic cough (CC), identify sensory symptoms consistent with central reflex sensitization (paresthesia and allotussia), and interpret this information in relation to sensory laryngeal neuropathy.Prospective observational study.Patients (n=53) with CC that was refractory to ...

Cough Suppression Therapy in Patients With Chronic Refractory Cough and Oropharyngeal Dysphagia
American Journal of Speech-Language PathologyPurpose: Chronic refractory cough (CRC), defined as cough lasting over 8 weeks despite medical intervention, is a prevalent condition with a number of associated comorbidities. Cough suppression therapy (CST) has been demonstrated to be a promising avenue for treating CRC by improving airway control and coordination.

Asthmatic cough is often refractory to standard treatments such as inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and long-acting β2 agonists (LABA). Tiotropium may modulate cough reflex sensitivity of acute viral cough, but its efficacy in asthmatic cough remains unknown. To evaluate whether tiotropium improves cough and cough reflex sensitivity in patients with asthma

Chronic Refractory Cough: Long-Term Outcomes Following Cough Suppression Therapy
Journal of VoiceThis study aimed to determine the long-term outcomes of patients with chronic refractory cough (CRC) following treatment for cough suppression therapy (CST). Currently, there is a lack of objective data regarding the long-term outcome of behavioral treatment for CRC.From the charts of 106 adult patients diagnosed with CRC, 24 patients were identified ...
