Em 2008, o Brasil adotou a política de erradicação do sub-registro civil de nascimento e de promoção do acesso à documentação básica. Passados 10 anos de atividades, diz-se que o país erradicou o sub-registro civil de nascimento, embora os dados mostrem que cerca de 1% das crianças nascidas no país permanecem sem registro.
