Silicon Regulates Potential Genes Involved in Major Physiological Processes in Plants to Combat Stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Silicon (Si), the quasi-essential element occurs as the second most abundant element in the earth's crust. Biological importance of Si in plant kingdom has become inevitable particularly under stressed environment.

Transposable Elements, Inflammation, and Neurological Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Transposable Elements (TE) are mobile DNA elements that can replicate and insert themselves into different locations within the host genome. Their propensity to self-propagate has a myriad of consequences and yet their biological significance is not well-

Multiple conserved regulatory domains promote Fezf2 expression in the developing cerebral cortex. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundThe genetic programs required for development of the cerebral cortex are under intense investigation. However, non-coding DNA elements that control the expression of developmentally important genes remain poorly defined. Here we investigate the

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Information system of regulatory elements. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The study of the transcriptome of a particular plant species, associated with these stresses, is a powerful tool in the new sequencing technologies that enable mass scanning of the genome at a speed, accuracy and unprecedented scale generating a huge ...

Intrinsic limits to gene regulation by global crosstalk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Gene regulation relies on the specificity of transcription factor (TF) - DNA interactions. In equilibrium, limited specificity may lead to crosstalk: a regulatory state in which a gene is either incorrectly activated due to noncognate TF-DNA interactions

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Putrescine Is an Intraspecies and Interkingdom Cell-Cell Communication Signal Modulating the Virulence of Dickeya zeae

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
The infections caused by Dickeya zeae become a severe problem in recent years, but the regulatory mechanisms that govern the bacterial virulence remain to be fragmental.

The Regulatory Review Process in South Africa: Challenges and Opportunities for a New Improved System. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: The aims of this study were to assess the regulatory review process in South Africa from 2015 to 2017, identify the key milestones and timelines; evaluate the effectiveness of measures to ensure consistency, transparency, timeliness, and ...
