Ultrasound Activated Piezoelectric Dural Patches to Drive Endogenous Neural Stem Cell–Mediated Repair Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a wireless, non‐invasive strategy for neural repair by developing a biodegradable piezoelectric dural patch that, under transcranial ultrasound, generates localized electrical fields to drive endogenous neural stem cells toward neuronal differentiation and functional integration.

The Role of Extracellular Vesicles MicroRNAs in Sarcopenia: From Aging to Multi‐Morbidity

open access: yesAGING MEDICINE, EarlyView.
Exosomes transporting miRNAs play a crucial bidirectional regulatory role in the process of sarcopenia, both in natural aging and under various pathological conditions. ABSTRACT Sarcopenia, defined as progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and function, occurs during aging and has also been recognized for its detrimental effects in various disease ...

Myocardial ischaemia reperfusion injury: the challenge of translating ischaemic and anaesthetic protection from animal models to humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Myocardial ischaemia reperfusion injury is the leading cause of death in patients with cardiovascular disease. Interventions such as ischaemic pre and postconditioning protect against myocardial ischaemia reperfusion injury. Certain anaesthesia drugs and

A Steerable and Expandable Magnetic Aspiration Catheter for Enhanced Aspiration Thrombectomy

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents a novel magnetic aspiration catheter (MAC) that can be both actively steered and undergo distal‐end expansion via externally applied magnetic fields. The MAC facilitates precise branch selection and enhances clot engagement by improving endovascular navigation and aspiration efficiency. Phantom experiments validate its feasibility

Remote Ischemic Conditioning in Cardiovascular Surgery.

open access: yesJournal of cardiovascular pharmacology and therapeutics, 2017
The existing clinical studies on remote ischemic preconditioning in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery are critically reviewed, with a focus on infarct size reduction and clinical outcome as end points. Confounders, notably the use of propofol anesthesia are identified.

Remote ischemic conditioning counteracts the intestinal damage of necrotizing enterocolitis by improving intestinal microcirculation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is one of the most lethal gastrointestinal emergencies in neonates needing precision treatment. Here the authors show that remote ischemic conditioning is a non-invasive therapeutic method that enhances blood flow in the ...

Short‐term remote ischemic conditioning may protect monkeys after ischemic stroke [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, 2019
AbstractObjectiveWe aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of short‐term remote ischemic postconditioning (RIPC) in acute stroke monkey models.MethodsAcute stroke monkeys were allocated to four groups based on the number of limbs exposed to RIPC.

Microrobotic Catheterization of the Ophthalmic Artery for Targeted Treatment of Retinoblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A microrobotic platform is presented that allows teleoperated and autonomous navigation of flow‐driven magnetic microcatheters, MagFlow, into the ophthalmic artery for superselective intra‐arterial infusion of chemotherapy to treat retinoblastoma. Extensive benchtop validations with patient‐derived biomimetic phantoms under optical and fluoroscopic ...

Immediate remote ischemic postconditioning after hypoxia ischemia in piglets protects cerebral white matter but not grey matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Remote ischemic postconditioning (RIPostC) is a promising therapeutic intervention whereby brief episodes of ischemia/reperfusion of one organ (limb) mitigate damage in another organ (brain) that has experienced severe hypoxia-ischemia.
