Cytokine Production by Retinal Pigmented Epithelial Cells
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses cytokine production by retinal pigmented epithelial cells. The retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) has many functions through which it assists the photoreceptors in visual transduction. In addition to the well-recognized day-to-day maintenance functions, the RPE also plays a very active role in normal and ...

m6A‐Driven Pexophagy Triggers Placental Ferroptosis to Impair Fetal Growth Upon Environmental Stress
Prenatal environmental stress exposure promotes m6A modification to drive PEX2‐dependent pexophagy, thereby causing placental ferroptosis and FGR. ABSTRACT The role and underlying mechanisms of placental ferroptosis in fetal growth restriction (FGR) induced by environmental stress remain poorly understood.

Neuromorphic Devices and Computing for Sensing, Memory, and Control
This review introduces neuromorphic devices made from diverse materials. These devices mimic neuronal functions and architectures and, when integrated with artificial or biological computing, can form closed loops with neurons for pressure, optical, acoustic, and biochemical sensing and modulation.

The influence of substrate modulus on retinal pigment epithelial cells [PDF]
AbstractAlthough transplantation of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells has shown promise for the treatment of retinal degenerative diseases, this therapeutic approach is not without challenges. Two major challenges are RPE cell dedifferentiation and inflammatory response following transplantation.

Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) induces hemolytic anemia characterized by increased erythrocyte destruction and ineffective erythropoiesis, leading to hepcidin suppression through disruption of the BMP/SMAD signaling pathway. Reduced hepcidin levels enhance intestinal iron absorption and hepatic iron accumulation, leading to hepatic iron overload.

Understanding the spacing of placodes in the eye: A comparative study across age and species
Abstract The conjunctival placodes of the avian eye form in an intriguing and conserved sequence in a circular annulus around the cornea. These 13–16 placodes develop into papillae that are essential for inducing underlying intramembranous flat bones, known as scleral ossicles, which form an important part of the ocular skeleton.

Aims This real‐world pharmacovigilance study utilizes FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) data (2004–2024) to characterize age‐related disparities in hydroxychloroquine (HCQ)‐associated adverse events (AEs), addressing gaps in age‐stratified risk assessment. Methods Disproportionality analysis (reporting odds ratios, RORs) and parametric Weibull

Human pluripotent stem cells were differentiated to cTnT+ cardiomyocytes and imaged throughout the process using phase contrast. We predicted differentiation efficiency (cTnT+ area) from phase contrast and compared model performance with a live‐cell cTnT‐GFP reporter.
